Duties and function
1.Being a personal assistant to Magistrate who is responsible to arrange date for mention cases,hearing cases,arrange the dates with the lawyers,prosecution officer and other administration duties inside the court.Responsible to the Magistrate and the court.
2.Responsible in Magistrate Court daily operation.before,during and after court operation.
3.Duties in court. As a legal clerk in the court of justice.
Interpreting in the open court which is the main duty of the interpreter in open court, (Court in Sabah and Sarawak still using English in Open Court): -interpreting the question given by Lawyer to witnesses and translating the answer.Reading chargers to accused and reading the nature and consequences of the offence to accused.Explaining the judgment entered agains accused or defendant.Explaining the procedure of court and misc law to the accused,public,defendant..
4.Reported duties to Registrar of Subordinate Courtr,Magistrate and Judge.
5.Entertaining client in the court.registry counter: (Client including the accused,witnesses,public,lawyer,police.deputy Public prosecutor from various government department)
6.Entertaining client via phone (client including lawyer.legal clerk from lawyer firm,conveyancing clerk,public,police department,prosecuting officer from various department)
7.Arranging files and document inside each file cases.Filing court document such as affidavit,summons,statement of defense and other court document filed by lawyer,police or other department related to court.
8.Responsible for daily report—Statistic of cases mention,hearing,continuation of hearing on that day.Result of each cases,Judgment from the court,reason for adjournment for each cases,amount of the cases settled on the said day.
9.Responsible for monthly report such as statistic for registered cases for civil and criminal cases or that month,statistic for settled cases and the reason,statistic for remanded prisoner,statistic of remanded juvenile offender – how long the detainee have been detained and their offences.Ammending the list of cases (civil & criminal)the list include accused name,the offence,first mention date,the next mention date,and if settled,the result or the conviction.
10.Responsible for preparing Cause list(list of cases ) that will be fix for hearing/mention.The list prepared earliest by 1 month before the date of the cases.The list will be updated and a week before the cases,the list will be given to Magistrate and the copy will be sent to lawyer firm,police and various government departmental prosecuting officer.
11.Responsible in court exhibit room: Arranging the exhibits in the exhibits room.Exhibit including document,jewellery,money,dangerous weapon etc.
12.Responsible for the court Diary. Court diary is a diary where all list of cases have been fix and the result of the cases will be record.Duty of the interpreter fixing a date, and fixing an adjournment date which is suitable and available for court,lawyer and the prosecution officer.
13.Responsible for file cases. (estimate 80 files per week)
14.Responsible in court administration work,preparing letter.memo and form.Arranging meeting between magistrate and lawyer, prosecution officer if any.
