I am currently by The Controlled Demolition Group as the General Manager of Oracle Safety Consultants Ltd. I was tasked to set up a new company as part of the group to undertake asbestos surveys and consultancy services. I set up Oracle Safety Consultants Ltd and have since been the manager of the company and have developed the client base, work systems and we have recently been awarded ISO quality accreditation.

As the manager, I am responsible for all staffing issues as well as the day-to-day running of the company including the financial planning, client Liaison, quotations, etc. Part of my responsibilities is to over see the site work for both the surveys and asbestos removal projects. I regularly attend meetings with major clients, pre-start meetings, and contract review meetings. I am responsible for all method statements, risk assessments and COSHH assessments at Oracle.

As part of our accreditation I am also responsible for the auditing of our internal Quality Systems, and have recently undergone formal Internal QMS audit training. This includes on site audits of both staff and equipment.

I have a strong background in the construction industry, and in particular within the Health and Safety field, having worked as an assistant Health and Safety officer for a Local Authority and as an Asbestos Consultant. I have also had experience in all sectors of industry, having visited a wide range of site during my work. These range from office blocks, hospitals, and heavy industry through to the Nuclear Industry.

I was previously employed as an Assistant Health and Safety Officer with Coventry City Council. My work involved all aspects of Health and Safety from site audits through to method statement approval, working in a variety of establishments large and small, commercial and domestic. I was responsible for reviewing method statements, site inspections and audits of both the Councils own contractors and outside contractors. I also taught asbestos awareness courses to the Council Employees.

My previous employment as an Asbestos Analyst provided a broad knowledge of all types of materials appertaining to this work and their consequences as well as current legislation (Hazardous Waste Act, Control of Asbestos at Work Act, etc.). I was responsible for meeting clients, discussing their requirements, designing the specifications for the projects through to the actual monitoring and contract review.

My work with Destiny Seating Ltd involved working abroad, mainly in Poland and the Czech Republic. There I supervised a local workforce (up to 30 men) in the internal fitting-out of cinemas. This brought its own challenges both in the work ethic and language difficulties of working in a different country. It involved overcoming the difficulties found in both the structural as well as the cultural differences in order to complete the contract on time and still show respect for the people with whom I was working. This entailed liasing and negotiating with both the main contractor and other sub-contractors in order to meet the deadlines and complete the contracts to the satisfaction of my employer.

As part of my work with my father in his Gas and Building companies I undertook gas surveys, which also included surveys of the building to establish the suitability for installations. Very often when 'fault finding' I was required to undertake an assessment of the whole property and the particular system in use in order to establish the corrective measures required. On the construction side I was responsible for managing contracts on my own and supervising sub-contractors.

In all of my work so far I have been required to ensure that the environment in which we operated complied with all aspects of Health and Safety legislation.

I regard myself as a good communicator, have adequate computer skills and a clean driving licence. My work has given me valuable experience of working in a team, contributing new ideas and solving problems together as well as accepting my individual responsibility. I have the ability to undertake assessments, formulate appropriate plans of action when required to meet changing deadlines. I am confident in dealing with colleagues and customers alike and recognise the value of networking with others. I have a good sense of humour.

I am looking to move to the U.S.A and see that my skills can be used effectively working within the asbestos and the Health and Safety Industry.
