WORK HISTORY

October 2002- Present
Establishment Advisor, HQ 2 Div, Ministry of Defence.
I have responsibility for all military, civilian and territorial manpower issues throughout the 2nd division, formulating policy, considering cases and efficiency proposals to maintain an efficient structure. In doing this I use an Oracle database system to maintain the correct Army establishment. I am the secretary of the Divisional Establishment Committee and seek to staff and resolve issues with senior officials within Scotland and North England. In this role I was also temporarily seconded to the HQ Consultancy team to establish optimum structure for the 2nd Division. This involved conducting interviews, surveys and workload assessments for all levels of personnel to determine the best organisation needed for divisional outputs.

February 2001-October 2002
Finance and Secretariat Officer, HQ 2 Div, Ministry of Defence.
I was responsible for providing advice on general policy issues, including Military aid to the civil community where military intervention in disasters or strikes was required. I also drafted and co-ordinated answers to parliamentary questions to be submitted to ministers and MP's. Other duties include assisting in audits and financial scrutiny as required.

September 1999 – October 2000
Environmental Scientist, Gardline Surveys, Gt. Yarmouth & Overseas.
My main role in this post was to complete environmental impact surveys, predominantly oil industry related, both offshore and onshore. The main environmental factors assessed by specialist equipment were chemical composition of the seabed and water column, including dissolved oxygen and pH alongside biological and geological information. Using the data collected (including limited Remotely Operated Vehicle work on pipeline surveys) environmental reports for a wide variety of clients were formulated giving a detailed interpretation of the current environment. These were then compared where possible to previous environmental reports that had been completed on the same rig or drilling area. In this role I also completed reports for water companies where current models had to be built for projects such as effluent pipelines or industrial water disposal.

November 1998 – September 1999
Area Manager, Oiltechnics, Stafford.
In this post, I increased turnover by over 30% in my area for a small sustainable development chemical manufacturing firm, specialising in oil spill remediation and clean up. The position involved giving presentations and liaison with multi-nationals, trying to assess where there was a requirement for chemicals and products. The products manufactured could be used to initially clean up spills or installed to provide a basic environmental protection system once in place for effluent water interceptor and disposal systems.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Competent in: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Office, Lotus 123, Minitab, Maximiser, Sage, Corel Draw, Surfer drawing and SIMPER Statistical packages. I also use Oracle database systems.

INTERESTS & ACTIVITIES

Triathlon (running, swimming & cycling), rowing (Awarded full blue at Edinburgh University and rowed for Scotland), travel. PADI Open Water Certified Diver.
