Presently serving with a premier research and development organization of India as a Research Scientist since December 2003.

Current Project and Result Areas
Presently involved in a project, which calls for collection of data from the ocean waves at a depth of 100m. and study of the dynamics of whole system. The objective of this project is to effectively improve the accuracy of future weather prediction in ocean. The system comprises one surface buoy, acoustic release mooring chains and anchor. For finding the dynamics of the mooring I choose mooring design and dynamics MATLAB based package.

Mooring design and dynamics is a set of Mat lab routines, that can be used to assist the design and configuration of single point oceanographic moorings, the evaluation of mooring tension and shape under the influence of wind and currents, and the simulation of mooring component positions when forced by time dependent current. By using this, mooring problems were solved along with this theoretical calculation of hydrodynamics of ocean structures.

Titled "Experimental Investigations On The Tidal Effects Of Moored Oscillating Water Column Wave Energy Caisson"

OBJECTIVE
Fixed oscillating water column (OWC) wave energy caisson is one of the promising devices for the extraction of power from ocean waves. However, this device is not suitable for larger tidal variation, as the high tide results in reflection and low tide affects the efficiency. Fixed wave energy caisson will be very expensive in deep waters and hence floating devices can be adopted. in the present work, an attempt has been made to investigate the performance of the OWC wave energy caisson in the moored condition under tidal effects, especially in deep water conditions.

For the present study. a 1:20 scale model of 6415Ton displacement prototype OWC wave energy caisson was tested fro three damping conditions at three water depths (to represent the tidal effects) for a mooring configuration with six mooring lines for a scope (chain length / water depth) of 4under different wave climate. the model tests were conducted in the New 2m wide wave flume at the Department of Ocean Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, (Chennai, India). The experiments were carried out for the wave periods from 1sec to 3.0 sec (interval of 0.25) for three different wave heights of 0.05m, 0.075m and1m. the motions of the caisson were measured using rotary type potentiometers. Wave probes were used to measure the incident wave height, transmitted wave height and wave height inside the OWC. A pressure transducer measured the air pressure inside the OWC. Specially fabricated load cells were used to measure the tension in the mooring lines.

In this context, the present study has been programmed to carry out model experiments to get insight knowledge about the pneumatic efficiency, power loss, the motion response, and line tension of a typical moored OWC for such an application, with special reference to the damping conditions defined by a/A ratio where a=Area of orifice opening, A=projected area of oscillating water column and tidal effects simulated by different water depths, at given mooring configuration of scope4.

For this study, waves were generated in wave flume by using wave synthesizer (WS4) package that is developed by Germans. This has taken 6 months duration.
