Quality Control and R & D activities in a Petroleum products manufacturing laboratory, (a sophisticated lab of an MNC of a US based MNC - Chevron Oronite Company LLC, USA with Chennai Petroleum Corporation, Chennai.)
1) Development of test methods
* Developed several test methods for analyzing new products, intermediates, products and effluent samples using sophisticated analytical instruments like ICP-AES, AAS, GC, FTIR, NMR,UV-VIS, NCS Analyzer, XRF, Auto Titrators, Coulometer etc.
* Implemented and validated the analytical test methods in accordance with the international standards like ASTM, DIN, IP, USFDA, ISI etc. Based on the study and feed back, new methods have been adopted in 7 other Oronite Global Laboratories and some of the ASTM methods have been modified with representation from the Global Analytical Coordinator.
* I participated regularly in ASTM Crosscheck Program for Lubricating oils and additives and achieved rating close to zero error.
2) Raw material qualification and vendor development
* I was responsible for maintaining and improving the incoming Quality, vendor approval, evaluation and management.
* It was my prime responsibility to maintain the Accepted Quality level and Quality Score. Some of the prestigious vendors are BASF, Huntsman, Union Carbide, Ethyl, Lubrizol, Chevron Chemical company LLC, etc.
* I applied several statistical techniques for improving incoming quality. Data maintained in SAP - Quality Management module and detailed reports were sent to the top management every month.
3) IT Projects for Lab
I was a Core Team member of SAP implementation team which implemented SAP R/3 version 4.6 b in record time and supported after implementation.
* Full cycle time implementation and customization of SAP R/3 version 4.6 B as core team member for QM Module and cross functional team member for MM, PP and FICO modules.
* Full cycle time implementation of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LabWare and Marshal) and their integration with analytical instruments and SAP QM Module.
4) ISO9001 and ISO 14001 system
* I was a core member of the team which worked for getting ISO 9001:2000 - Quality Management System and ISO 14000 Environmental Management System certification from BVQI.
* I was also a certified internal auditor for both the systems. I am familiar with QS 9000, TQM and Balridge award requirements. I was fully involved in the periodic audits and continual improvement plans.
5) Quality improvement using Statistical tools
* Applied modern statistical Techniques like Control chart, Schewart chart, FMEA, Histogram, Pareto analysis and Process Capability analysis for quality improvement and improvement in Process Capability.
* Quality performance report sent to the top management and various functional heads.
