Desktop Tasks:
1. Management and Planning of geo-technical and geophysical soil investigations, carried out to establish the geo-technical and geologic soil characteristics of a project area: (1) requirement assessment and selection of the proper investigation methods and techniques to be used; (2) planning of the investigation; (3) redaction of a proper method statement, (4) planning of the laboratory work; (5) follow-up of the soil-investigation and implementation of amendments whenever required.
2. 'Desktop Studies': in case geological and geo-technical data are available: (1) reliability evaluation of the existing data and interpretation; (2) creation and building of 3D terrain model and (3) volume computations of excavation and reclamation.
Permanent assignment: research and screening of potential subcontractors for execution of soil investigations, follow-up of developments in the soil investigation business in order to optimise the soil investigation activities and their results, comparative studies on methodologies, etc.
Outdoors activities or on-site assignments:
On-site management and follow-up of surveys (geo-technical and/or geological), planning and work organisation, crew management. My responsibility also consists of the implementation of amendments or adaptations to and during the survey in function of the results. Programme determination, planning and follow-up of the laboratory investigation on the collected samples and reporting of the results. The field activities are mainly located in foreign countries.
Further witnessing and evaluation of soil investigations conducted by the clients and reporting of the reliability of the obtained and communicated results.

08.05 Expert Assistance in planning of full-scope site investigation project (location: confidential). Project involves both geotechnical items (drillings, coring, vibro-coring, CPT(U)s) and geophysical items (bathymetry, subbottomprofiling, georesistivity and side scan sonar). On-site assistance, follow-up and reporting planned in 11.05
06.05 Ras Laffan, Qatar. Geotechnical and geophysical investigation related to the future expansion works of the Ras Laffan LNG and port facilities.
03.05 Adelaide, Australia. Supervision, follow-up and analysis of geophysical survey related to the deepening of the access channel of the port's access channel.
01.05 Doha, Qatar. Update of existing geologic model and assitance in planning for the ungoing works in the realisition of the Pearl of the Gulf project.

Soil investigation was conducted in order to determain the quality of the sediments to be dredged as well as to determine the presence of possible cemented material / bedrock surface. Present on site as visitor as the investigation was conducted by the client.
06.02 Site and soil investigation in the Port of Khasab area, Sultanate of Oman. The soil investigation was conducted in order to determine the surface and its morphology of the rock underlying the loose surface sediments.
12.01-03.02 Site and Soil Investigation at Hulhumale Island, the Republic of the Maldives. Use of conventional drilling techniques for soil sampling (shallow drilling) in order to determine the required soil charchateristics for dredging acivities. In charge of soil investigation on site as well as as management of the laboratory testings (designation of the samples, follow-up of the testing).
10.01-11.01 Site and Soil investigation in Jebel Ali, Dubai, United Arab Emirates for the creation of the full leisure Palm Island 2 Project. Technical supervision for the fetermination of the geological build-up of the concerned areas for construction and borrow areas. Both drillings and geophysical tecniques (sparker array and pinger) were used for geological determination.
08.01-09.01 Site and Soil investigation at Le Havre, Port 2000 expansion area. Determinantion of Geological build-up down to –20 CMH.
04.01 Site and Soil investigation Salmand Island area, Bahrein. Follow-up of the shallow drilling survey (+/- 10m bsl) using shell and augur and rotory drilling and SPT-survey.
04.01 Desk studies in order to produce geological model of project areas, based on existing geotechnical and geophysical data.
07.01 Preparation and set-up (desk study) for a geophysical survey in Kuan-Tang, Taiwan, performed to conduct and improve the quality of the geotechnical investigation. Geophysical data acquired is interpreted based on already existing borehole logs.
08.01 Research and development of geophysical survey method in order to establish the ratio of sand and clay in filled hopper after dredging.

Project Manager
The project involved the determination of the sediment budget of the Western Scheldt Estuary and the Belgian East coast, based on the bathymetric data available of the area, over a period of 30 years (1970-1999). The aim of the project was to determine the influence of the human activities (dredging, exploitation, dumping) on the total sediment budget. The final result of the study revealed the total sediment budget (sand and mud), the sand budget and the sediment/sand budget related only to natural processes.

All data of 65% of the area were treated and mapped by Haecon. The University of Ghent assured the interpretation of the data covered approximately by 35% of the territory and stood in for the completion of the digital database related to the Antwerp map area.

Supervision and assistance to the execution of an investigation program aiming the identification of the sedimentological phenomena causing the siltation in the Binh Tri Harbour area. Based on the results, technical solutions (dams, sediment traps) were developed as well as the optimisation of the dredging activities was established.

Mission of the study was the inventarisation of all activities concerning dredging (legal, environmental, organisation, execution, volumes, dumping, treatment, follow-up, etc.) in different European harbours and the waterway of the Saint Laurence river in Canada. The study identified the evolution in the last 10 years of maintenance or capital dredging in the ports. Based on the results, Haecon established an implementation program consisting of methods to follow in order to improve the dredging activities in the French harbours.

Pedological and geological investigation of the area along the implementation section of the pipeline between Sankt-Vith and Bassenge (Belgium). The study resulted in the identification of the areas requiring specific digging techniques and specific pipe coating.

Step1: Permitting and Front End Engineering for the installation of the Pan European Crossing Optical Fibre Cable connection between Dumpton Gap and Bredene in Belgium. Haecon was responsible for the crossing on the Belgian Continental Shelf, the landfall, dune crossing and connection with land cable.
Step2: Redaction of the Environmental Impact Report for the proposed cable installation works following the report specifications as proposed by the MUMM (Management Unit for the Mathematical Model for the Western Scheldt Estuary and the Northsea), Ministry of Economics Affair.
Step3: Topographical investigation of the landfall site, dune crossing area and connection with land cable and design for these sections of the Pan European Crossing Cable system. Assistance at the field works as well as notifications of the concerned authorities.

State of art of the existing studies and report on sediment transport (both qualitative and quantitative) and current patterns in the district. Verifying the impact of the human activities (extension Port of Zeebrugge, dredging works and the connected dumping activities) in a natural marine environment. An evolution history of the district (sedimentation, currents) will be established. A design and follow up of a geotechnical and geophysical survey programme has been proposed with the objective to obtain a complete overview of sedimentological processes along the Belgian / Dutch Coast and the Scheldt estuary.
02.98-05.98 Surveyor civil engineering and mechanical construction for nv Haecon in the frame of the Distrigas onshore Pipeline RTR-VTN construction Project (DN1000).
09.97-11.97 Geological fieldwork for Haecon NV, on request of Distrigas, in the frame of the RTR-VTN onshore pipeline construction project DN1200. Geological follow-up on the field, the stratigraphy and the lithology of the quaternary was established. The obtained field data were processed and exchanged between the participating companies. (Haecon NV, Electrabel, Distrigas) and the competent Universities (Universiteit Gent, K.U. Leuven).
12.97-12.98 Scientific collaborator to the Universiteit Gent (University of Ghent division RUMACOG / department geomorphology). Realisation annual report C-STAR Project (inter-universitary research programme - subject: geomorphological landscape evolution in marine environment).

- 09.1997: Study: "a geophysical research of the connection between the Iceland-Faeroe Ridge and the Aegir Ridge".
Through analyse of mainly seismic, sedimentological and bathymetric data, a global tectonic model was established for the region. An attempt of reconstruction of the evolution through geological times of Iceland and the Iceland-Faeroe Ridge was made, and its role in the main tectonic events of the area was estimated.
SCIENTIFIC EXPERIENCES:
- Navigation on board of the research ship "Belgica" in the frame of a study concerning the sediment processes in height of the big sandbanks before the Belgian coast. Collaboration as well for the navigation as for the preparation of the campaigns.

- Fieldwork: geological study in Poland/Krakow (May1996).
