PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Title: Quantification of Leachate in Landfill Liners – HELP Model

Organization: National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad.

Software: WASP, Surfer, Flowpath, AutoCAD, HELP, Visual ModFlow

Description: In the present study, the USEPA simulation model HELP (Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance) has been employed for simulating the landfill hydrologic processes. The model simulates Landfill conditions and determines leachate generation through different layers of the landfill. The model accounts for the effects of surface storage, runoff, infiltration, evapotranspiration, soil moisture storage, lateral subsurface drainage, leachate recirculation, and leakage through soil or composite liners. The results of the simulations are presented in graphical as well as tabular forms.
