Major Projects (GIS)
i) Integrated Facilities Management Team (Chevron-Worley Parsons)
This project is one of the main milestones of Kuwait Oil Company in achieving their goals by 2020.This deals with the Infrastructure and Land use planning of the Burgan oil field to accommodate many numbers of future oil wells, suggesting a method for Artificial lift and Ageing equipment study.
My role: Coordination of GIS data collection, Design and creation of spatial database confirming to the PSDM standards, Land use and infrastructure planning ii) GIS Solutions Consultant - KOC (Kuwait Oil Company)
Kuwait Oil Company's responsibilities under the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation's (KPC) umbrella are exploration, drilling, and production of oil and gas within the State of Kuwait. Kuwait Oil Company is also involved in the storage of crude oil and delivery to tankers for export.
They use GIS for many of their day to day operations.
My role: Provide consultancy to GIS solutions in various areas of operation like navigation, utility mapping, cartography, facilities management, automated mapping etc and other areas where GIS can be a help to their daily activities and spatial data management.
iii) Bees, biodiversity and forest livelihoods in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve
This Project seeks to elucidate the interdependencies between bees, biodiversity and forest livelihoods in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve (NBR), Western Ghats, India.
My role: Exploring various possibilities of developing GIS in a holistic manner and capacity building within Keystone. The various possibilities are mapping all sorts of bees and their habitats, pollinators, plants etc. Other prospective application includes marketing, institutional development and local governance, wetlands, water resources, land development, capacity building, ecological monitoring, conservation etc.
iv) United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS)
UNMIS Geo department is a part of Integrated Support Services of the UN Peace Keeping Mission in Sudan.
The Geo department responsibility in the first phase of the mission is to cater all the map needs and data needs of the Military and Civilians.
My role: To integrate spatial data from various UN agencies into a comprehensive database. Designing the metadata standards for the
UNMIS data etc.
v) Navigation/ Fleet Management Systems
Informap has a range of navigation products named UAElocator. The UAElocator is a complete onboard navigation system which runs on Pocket PC, Windows XP/2000 etc.
My role: To Design the non spatial/spatial database, Produce fully navigable data (Quality checks, DOT checks etc.), Give technical support to the data production department in terms of custom programs and software help, Exporting the data into the custom format and setting the projection parameters in MosGIS Pro, Creating the final build of the product, Corporate Presentations, Preparing quotes as per the user requirement, Making technical write-ups etc.
Informap has a fleet management solution named Infofleet which makes use of a fleet management device that has got a built-in GPRS modem and GPS device. This device sends the GPS coordinates to our fleet application server configured with a static IP. This application in turn receives the GPS coordinates and puts it in the database along with other data like the ID of vehicle etc. There is a client application which is web enabled to access the coordinates stored in the fleet database and show it as an animated layer in the map. It makes use of the ArcIMS server to perform the operation. Even the UAElocator desktop versions have the capabilities of communicating with fleet server and displaying the position of the moving vehicles.
My role: To give the technical support for these products and to study about the existing fleet management systems and navigation systems and give the feedback to the development team to improve our products.
vi) Battle Field Management System (BMS)
To develop an application for the Indian Army which contains the functionalities such as visibility analysis, line of sight analysis, displaying DGN feature class wise, Linking DGN features with non spatial data in RDBMS, Hotlinking etc.
Softwares Used- Arcobjects, VisualBasic, Oracle
My Role: Leading a team of 3 developers and programming in Arcobjects vii) Army Spatial Data Exchange (ASDE)
To design a new spatial file format for Indian Army keeping the base line as the proposed NSDE. The second phase of the project is to develop converters for converting the ASDE format into DVD1/3, NSDE, DGN, MIF, SHAPE and GEOMEDIA formats
My Role – Gap analysis of various formats and designing the ASDE format viii) Road Information Management System
To do the modifications and adding new functionalities in the RIMS project. This project is a client/server online project with more than 1000 users with Arcview front end and Arc Storm database.
Softwares used - ArcInfo 8.1, Arc Storm, ArcView, AML, Avenue, Oracle.
My Role - Maintenance of Data maintenance and data extraction modules which involves Programming in AML and Avenue.
Other projects include Parcel mapping and geocoding, Contour generation, DEM generation, Pollution surface interpolation and Cartography.
