PROFILE:

After completing my Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering at Canterbury University in 2006, I moved to Auckland, New Zealand to work for Norman Disney & Young, a Multi-National building services consultancy. Working in the mechanical section my primary role was HVAC system design for both small and large scale building projects. The mechanical team initially consisted of just 6 engineers, therefore I was expected to perform under high levels of project responsibility and gained exceptional tuition from senior staff members.

In September 2008 I had the privilege of relocating to Dubai with Norman Disney & Young. We were appointed the lead building services consultants for the Nakheel Tall Tower, set to be the world's tallest building, standing over 1km in height. My role in the design team was undertaking the conceptual mechanical design for a luxury hotel located at the summit of the building. This included air and water side schematic design, plantroom spatial layouts, service penetration coordination, and creating AutoCAD drawings. Unfortunately this job has recently been put on hold indefinitely at the completion of our preliminary design stage.

I am involved in a number of extra-curricular activities. These include being a singer and guitarist in a band that performs in various venues and at numerous private functions. We were recently awarded second place out of forty bands in the annual 'battle of the bands' where we performed original songs written by myself. In addition to this, I have great passions for scuba diving, snowboarding and water sports and last year completed the Buller half marathon in 1 hour 35 minutes. I am a self-motivated, confident team player, with a strong interest in communications, building management control systems, and mechanical system design. My proven personal strengths include:

RECENT EXPERIENCE:

Norman Disney & Young Auckland/Dubai 2007-Present
HVAC Mechanical Engineer
* After graduating from University I worked at Norman Disney & Young as a building services consulting engineer in the mechanical section
* Roles include: TRACE Heatload Calculations, System design and coordination, plant sizing, creating AutoCAD drawings, meeting with clients, architects and structural engineers, Building Management Control System design, contractor shop drawing reviews, and RFI management.

Notable job experience includes:

* A multi-titled building with full HVAC services catering for mechanically ventilated car parks, cinemas, retail, hotel facilities, and a BMS system. The project is currently in detailed design stage. I was responsible for designing and assembling the developed design documentation for this project.
* I was the main mechanical engineer on an iconic 5-star hotel including ventilated car parks, indoor swimming pool facilities, 200 guestrooms, function rooms and facilities. In addition to a demanding technical design program, there was a heavy emphasis on client and design team interaction.
* More recently I have relocated to Dubai as part of the design team for the Nakheel Tall Tower project.

John R Hunter Ltd. Summer 2005-2006
Professional Engineering Work Experience

* I completed a summer with John R Hunter Ltd, manufacturers of automated food filling machinery. During this period I gained professional engineering experience to fulfil my degree requirements. I was heavily involved with the design and modification of an automated filling machine that enabled packets to be loaded, filled and sealed with minimal labour use. This involved developing new filling and package holding methods previously unused by the company.
* I worked extensively on AutoCAD and Solid Works, two computer design packages essential for most mechanical engineers. This involved creating complex machine assemblies to view and analyse for possible improvements.
* I gained experience with pneumatics, logic control, and circuit diagrams.
* An advantage of working at John R Hunter Ltd. was that I was involved in projects from start to end. This allowed me to experience all stages of projects first hand and see them evolve.

Practical Engineering Work Experience

* I completed my practical work experience as required to fulfil my degree requirements. This involved working in a mechanical workshop becoming familiar with the operation of machinery and tools.
* Part of this work that I found interesting was performing modifications on a 5-tonne prototype blueberry harvester. This allowed practical solutions to be experimented with and implemented on the new machine.
* I was heavily involved in MIG and S/S TIG welding, and manufacturing parts from engineering drawings.

Cambridge Vetinary Services Summers 2002-2004
X-ray technician

* I worked in the dark room developing X-rays for horses to assist in their sale at the annual Karaka Bloodstock Horse Sales.
* This involved regular maintenance of the developing machine, mixing of chemicals, and troubleshooting if problems with the developer were encountered.
* Required the ability to multitask extremely well under fast working, cramped conditions and generate an efficient working method to maintain a functional workspace.
