Ship Repair Engineer 1998 – 2008
Colombo Dockyard PLC is Sri Lanka's largest engineering facility leading in the business of ship repairs, offshore vessels repairing, shipbuilding and heavy engineering projects. It is acknowledged to have the most dynamic ship repairing facility in all of south Asia and it operates four dry-docks, the largest with a capacity of 125000 dwt (dead weight tonnage) and extensive repair berth facilities. The company also capable of working in compliance with all Classification Society Standards and strict adherence to international Safety and Quality Standards and is accredited with the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Certification.
Responsibilities

* Planning, organizing to managing resources efficiently and in a cost effective manner in line with budgetary controls.
* Maintaining liaison with clients and dealing with contractual correspondence. Ensuring proper co-ordination among fellow engineers in various departments, ship owners, class surveyors to achieve timely completion of work with maintained quality standard.
* Performing deck machinery and structural repairs for marine vessels (merchant vessels, petroleum tankers, naval vessels and offshore operational vessels).
* Participating in new installations of deck machineries and various types of systems pipeline, valves installation.
* All operational and documentation works in deck machinery fitting and machine shops to manage within stipulated standard of ISO 9001:2000.
* Ensuring health and safety requirements of all staff engaged in repair activities.
* Attend progress review meetings and monitor and evaluate the work progress.

* Reduced repair cost by 14% through introducing pneumatic, hydraulic operated machines and reusable items as spares.

2. Erection of 04 LPG Storage Tanks and Fire Water Tanks

Four sphere tanks with capacity of 4000m3 each and fire water tank with a capacity of 7500m3.
Project Duration: Dec 98 to Nov 99
Owner: Shell Gas Company- Sri Lanka
Main Contractor: Schelde Sicon B.V. Vissingen, Netherland
Value: USD 2.8 million

3. Muthurajawella Tank Farm Project.

Muthurajawella tank farm project consisting of 29 tanks, capacity 18x20000m3, 8x10000m3, 3x5000m3 for the storage of diesel oil and kerosene oil for Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. Also this project involved onshore construction of 1.5 km of API 5L-X52x12.7WTxDN450 pipeline, including 2 horizontal directional drillings (HDD) to connect the offshore pipeline to the storage tanks.
Project Duration: March 2002 to May 2003

4. Brunswick Mini Hydro Power Plant Project.

The Government of Sri Lanka, with the assistance of the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) has established the Renewable Energy for Rural Economic Development Project, which aims to expand the commercial provision and utilization of renewable energy resources, with a focus on improving the quality of life and economic development in rural areas by providing access to electricity generated from such resources.

Value: USD 0.8 million

5. Mahawaliy System-C Upgrading Project.

The Government of Sri Lanka, with the assistance of the JICA Japan funded to upgrade irrigation project including channels, Sluice Gates and all machineries and related civil works.
Project Duration: August 2003 to September 2004
Owner: Mahawali Authority of Sri Lanka
Value: USD 1.6 million

Responsibilities

* Maintain adherence to contract specification and planed for the project to complete within the stipulated time period and take appropriate actions to ensure that the targets are achieved.
* Plan, organize and manage the resources efficiently and in cost effective manner to complete the project within the budgets.
* Maintain constant liaison with the client and handling of contractual correspondence.
* Effective monitoring of all site activities related to execution of the site construction activities including Occupational, Health and safety (OHS) aspects.
* Estimation of man-hours and materials including calculation of costing.

Achievements

* Completed all the projects within the estimated time period except the Mahawaliy system-C upgrading project due to bad weather condition.
