Bantrel Co. (Since May 2006):

Working with Bantrel Co., Canada, in the position of Lead Civil / Structural Engineer, for different units of Oil and Gas industries.

Presently working with Husky Energy, Lloydminster Upgrade (HLU) for different small to medium size projects (value between $ 10,000,000 and $ 50,000,000). Some of the Projects done are,

* New Sulphur storage Tank foundation and connecting pipelines.
* New Sour Water Tank foundation and connecting pipelines.
* Desalter Skim Tanks, pumps and connecting pipelines.

Works done in the above projects are as follows,

* Developed scoping study and finalizing the scope of the project.
* Frontend design (DBM) and estimation (MTO preparation) to calculate the valuation of the project.
* More accurate estimate of the project (EDS or +/ - 10 %)
* Detail engineering.
* Coordination and construction support. Replied FRIs and FCN raised by site.
* Project completion and as-building.

Designing a portion of the A & V Unit of Shell AOSP –Upgrader Expansion 1 Project. A few features of this Project are,

1. Major structures designed are, Heavy equipment foundations (vertical vessels, horizontal vessels, exchangers, pumps etc.), Piles, Pipe rack foundations & structures and process structures.

2. Volume of this work was around 30,000 man-hours completed in 11 months with peak man-power of 26 engineers & designers.

3. Major activities done are,
- Planning of man power and work.
- Estimating volume of work and scheduling.
- Regular monitoring and updating of volume of work.
- Supporting and guiding engineers in design calculation. Developing design guidelines and work book.
- Checking of design calculations and drawings.
- Attending meetings, coordinating with other departments and with client.
- Training and team building.
- Replied FRIs and supported construction.
- Ensuring quality.

4. Majority of steel structures were modularized.

5. The Project completed within schedule with minimum changes and almost with zero re-work.

Completed midsize project EDE – Phase 1, 2 and 3 for Petro Canada Edmonton Refinery.

Fluor Canada Ltd.
(April 2001 to 2006)

Some of the major projects handled in Fluor are as follows,

ULSD (ISBL & OSBL):

The scope of this project was to converted Low Sulphur Diesel unit of Irving Oil Refinery to Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel. To implement this successfully facilities, equipments and utilities were added to different units of the Refinery. The units and areas upgraded are Merox Unit, HDS Unit, Crude unit # 3 & 4, Pipe racks, Tank Farm area, Shipping Pumps and Distribution Pipelines between Refinery and Shipyard.
The Civil / Structural works for this project was consisting of isolated spread footings and Steel structural supports for pipes, Exchanger and Drum foundations on piles, Pump foundations, pipe rack structures and other misc. structures and foundations. This Project was handled with a team of Civil Engineers and Designers as a Lead Engineer.

ULSD-HDS Project:

This project is for the Up-gradation of HDS unit for the Production of Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel. To continue smooth operation of the Irving Oil Refinery, this portion was handled separately from ULSD – ISBL Project.

The major scope of Civil / Structural design were equipment foundations (Exchangers, Pumps, Tanks / Vertical vessels, piperack foundations and different spread footings / combined footings for small equipments / cable tray / isolated pipes), framed steel structures for over-head equipments and steel structural pipe racks.

ULSG Project:

This Ultra Low Sulphur Gasoline Project of Irving Oil Refinery consists of one new unit with Piled mat foundation for vertical vessels, Exchangers and multiple pipe supports, Electrical Building with Transformer and switch foundations, Multilayer pipe rack structures & foundations, Framed structure with Exchanger, Pump and pipe supports.

Marketing Upgrade Project:

This Project upgraded final distribution system for Irving Oil Refinery. The Civil / Structural scope of this project includes Storage Tank foundations, Booster Pump foundations, development of Truck loading area & Parking area along with overhead pipeline supporting structures with valve operating platforms.

A few of the other small and medium size Projects handled for Irving Oil Refinery, Saint John are,

1) Tank field Automation.
2) Hydrogen Recovery Unit
3) Nitrogen Plant
4) Dock remediation Project.
5) Rail car loading Rack replacement.
6) Laying of 24 inch. overhead Bunker C line between Refinery and ESJ Terminal.
7) NHT Upgrade.
8) Repairing of Buildings & foundations.
9) Checking of existing foundations and Structures with new equipments.

The works performed in all the above mentioned Projects are as follows,

1. Designed heavy equipment foundations like, Vertical Drum foundations, Horizontal Exchanger foundations, Pump foundations, Pipe rack supporting foundations, isolated pipe supporting foundations and other equipment and building foundations.
2. Designed steel Pipe rack structures, standalone steel pipe supports, steel frame structure for supporting equipments at height and other misc. steel supports.
3. Estimated project scope of works for the total Civil / structural work, estimated man hour requirement, estimated quantities of works etc.
4. Communicated with Geo-technical consultant to accrue all required inputs for foundation design.
5. Prepared contractor's scope of works, Purchase orders and excavation permits.
6. Coordinated with other departments (Mechanical, Piping and Electrical), squad checked vendor drawings and other department drawings.
7. Provided regular support to construction at site.

MECON Limited (1987 to 2000)

MECON is a large EPC Company and the first Indian Company to get ISO-9001 accreditation in the field of consultancy, engaged in execution of Thermal power, Steel, Petrochemicals and Material handling projects in different parts of the world.

Lead Engineer, MECON Limited (May 1998 to Nov 2000)

Various projects handled as a Lead Engineer are highlighted below. Each project involves frequent communications with customers and stakeholders, problem solving, cost and schedule control, design and design co-ordination, construction management, contract handling, invoicing etc.

Re-heating furnace Auxiliary Buildings,

1. Pump House Building (30m x 20m x 10m building with 6 pump foundations and 10t capacity EOT crane)
2. Generator House Building (15m x10m x 10m building with Generator foundation, monorail and intermediate platforms).
3. Valve operating steel platforms around Furnace with foundations.
4. Pipe supporting structural rack with foundation—150m long.

Equipment storage Building (Shed type single story building with double bay and 40t capacity EOT crane in both of them)

Responsibility handled on the above mentioned Projects are,

* Finalized scope of Civil / Structural works.
* Selected vendors.
* Designed Buildings with intermediate platforms at different level and with EOT cranes.
* Checked detail-engineering drawings prepared by vendors.
* Prepared project completion report.

Senior Structural Design Engineer, MECON Limited (Sep. 1994 to May 1998)

The major buildings and structures designed during this period are Central Compressor House Building (30m X 60 m X 10m high Steel building with 20t capacity EOT crane and Concrete spread footing), overhead utility pipe rack structure for Rolling Mill Area (6m wide x 500m long Pipe rack, 2 tire) and different auxiliary buildings for Continuous Casting Shop (like Electrical Control Room building, Pump House Building etc. All these buildings had overhead EOT cranes with capacity between 10t and 50t, roof truss with steel structural framing and platforms at different level).

Along with designing other activities done for the above projects are,

1. Prepared proposals, estimated Civil / Structural quantities, calculated cost and schedules.
2. Checked and approved designs and drawings prepared by vendors.
3. Inspected fabricated structures.

Design Engineer, MECON India Limited (Nov 1987 to Aug 1994)

Designed pipe racks (6m wide, two tire and total length of around 2km) and foundations. As it was in an existing plant with a lot of underground services, the racks had to design with different spans and with pipe bridges.

Designed the following buildings,

1. Main Control Room Building (Steel Structural Framed Building with four floors. Quantity of steel structure was around 500t)
2. Transformer House (30m x 10m x15m building with EOT crane and Transformer foundations).
3. Different single bay, steel structural framed shed type buildings.

All the above-mentioned buildings were also inspected during fabrication and supervised during erection.

* Worked as a field / on site design Engineer during Steel Structural Erection of Converter Shop Building of an Integrated Steel Plant (volume of steel structures was 40,000 tons).
* Designed site modifications for Structures and connections.
* Administered contracts.

Tuscon Engineers Pvt. Ltd
Civil Engineer (Sept. 1983 to Nov. 1987)

* Designed and supervised different RCC Industrial Structures and foundations of a Cement Plant.
* Quality control of concrete and steel works.
