EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Certificate in Remote Sensing/Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Coastal Zone Management and Natural Resources from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) Department of Space, Government of India, Dehradun, India, 1998.

2. MSc. Marine Geology from Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin, India, placed in First Class, 1996.

3. BSc. Geology from University of Kerala, Trivandrum, India, placed in Second Class 1993.

Brief description on training at IIRS Dehradun: In the recent years, the exploitation of resources from coastal zone has increased manifold. But it is felt that the coastal issues in order to become sustainable needs proper management, planning and decision making. Indian Institute of Remote Sensing is a premiere house of training in Remote Sensing and GIS application to various disciplines of earth sciences.

c) International Association For Gondwana Research (IAGR)

Position: Research Fellow/Desk Editor/Member;from Jan1997 - July 1998

Description of the Organization and Personal Responsibilities:

IAGR, an International Organization based in Japan and working in the field of earth sciences, mainly interested in the origin and the evolution of Gondwana Continents and potential in the field of mineralogy, geomorphology, petrology, etc. As a Scientific Organization IAGR has a published quarterly international geoscience journal called "Gondwana Research" under its credit.

* Personally involved in the research activities of IAGR under Dr. M Santosh, Secretary General IAGR.
* To desk edit "Gondwana Research".
* As a member to participate in various activities of IAGR.

Relevant achievements/Project/Contribution to Environment/Development Issues a) Involvement in the Production of various High Resolution Digital Ortho Images and highly accurate Digital Terrain Modeling from Large Scale Aerial Photographs of UAE, Parts of Oman, Qatar etc. Production of DOI of Various German Cities/Towns. Production of Landuse/forest classification map of Parts of Africa; (Maps Geosystems, Sharjah, UAE).

b) Assessment of water quality parameters of the Paradeep coast and Mahanadi Estuary, Bay of Bengal, East Coast of India using Remote Sensing and GIS; (Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), NRSA, Dehradun, India 1998).

The study area, which includes the Paradeep Port, is a highly environmentally sensitive and vulnerable to both natural and anthropogenic inputs. The bathymetry of the area is changing rapidly by the action

of adjoining river and estuarine systems (through their high rate of sediment input) and makes it difficult for the regular port operations. The discharge of industrial (highly phosphatic) and domestic effluents are also creating imbalance to the coastal habitat. Although the area is obeying the coastal regulation zone of 500 meters, it is not enough to protect the highly endangered mangrove forests, which are depleting at an alarming rate.

c) Geodemography of the Indian Cities such as Hyderabad, Madras, Pune & Bangalore using Geographic Information Systems for ICICI (International Credit and Investment Corporation of India Limited) and Food World - a commercial fast food outlet in the indian cities; (GIS India, c/o Map World, Hyderabad, India, 1999).

d) Proposal for detailed forest cover mapping project in Andrapradesh to be sanctioned by the Dept. of forest, Hyderabad, India which incorporates the applications of Remote Sensing, Global Positioning System (GPS) and GIS; (GIS India, c/o Map world, Hyderabad, India 1999).

e) Studies on Texture, Mineralogy and Geochemistry of the Carbonate sands of Kavaratty and Amini atolls of Lakshadeep Islands, Arabian Sea, India (Cochin University of science and Technology, Cochin, India 1996).

Kavaratty and Amini atolls of Lakshadeep Islands of Arabian Sea are highly sensitive part of the ecosystem like any other coral islands of the world. These coral Islands are facing damages due to the increasing intervention of human activities. The study revealed so many interesting facts such as the nature of the bed rock present in the island system and its mineralogy. The texture of the coral sands is so worthy to mention that the east coast (stormy beach) and the West Coast (lagoon side) has remarkably different size proportion.

Data collection and application of technologies for Oil and Gas industries/Natural Resources Assessment/Geology/Hazard Monitoring/Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)/Coastal Zone Management/Facilities Management (FM)/Utilities Management/Quality Mangement etc. Integrated GIS and Image Processing (IP) approach for Environment /Development issues and Exploration, Customer Resources Management and Market Analysis.
