Conduct laboratory and bench scale biodegradation studies in various systems (batch, fed-batch, continuous, suspended biofilm, packed bed, fluidized beds, and multiphase bioreactors under aerobic or anaerobic conditions, soil composting, biopiles, bioventing etc…)
Lab bench simulation and optimization of soil and wastewater biological treatment
Isolate and characterize microorganisms
Wastewater engineering (design of biological processes)
Combine physical and chemical processes with biological methods for soil and wastewater treatment (especially Advanced Oxidation Processes).

Capable to work in English, French and Swedish.

2005: Anjou Recherche, Veolia Environment, France. Collaboration project on the removal of trace contaminants with the R&D center of Veolia Environment, a world leading company in environmental services.

2002-2004: Akzo Nobel, Sweden. Study of fate and biological treatment of industrial surfactants.

2005-2006: CSIR-Division of Water, Pretoria, South Africa. SIDA-Research link project entitled "Development of a water quality test kit based on substrate utilization and toxicity resistance by river microbial communities". Foreign collaborator: Dr. Patrick Maila, CSIR-Division of Water, Pretoria, South Africa. Personal role in the project: Swedish project leader.

2004: Department of Chemical Engineering, Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana, Mexico. 6 month collaboration project on the use of fungal and biphasic reactors for air biofiltration. Foreign collaborator: Prof Sergio Revah.

2003-2006: Technical Institute of Hanoi, Vietnam and Manila De La Salle University, Philippines. SIDA-Research link project entitled "Facilitated biological method for the removal of persistent organic pollutants". Foreign collaborators: Prof. Dr. Susan Gallardo, Chemical Engineering Dept, Manila De La Salle University, Philippines & Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nhan, Institute for Environmental Science and Technology, Technical Institute of Hanoi, Vietnam. Personal role in the project: project leader.

2002-2005: Cairo University, Egypt. SIDA-Research link project entitled "A novel biological remediation process combined with solar irradiation for the cost-efficient removal of persistent organic pollutants". Foreign collaborator: Prof. Dr. Ossama El Tayeb, Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University. Personal role in the project: project leader.
