Conduct risk assessments, induction training for new personnel on site. Review documents to ensure compliance with OSHAS 18001. Conduct monthly audits, keeping risk assessments and aspects & impact registers up to date, reviewing objectives and targets. Establish a contractor management system and entry control system. Make sure that the organisation is aware of, and complies with, all legislation in relation to the use of its plant, equipment and substances, as well as in all workplace activities. Promote occupational health and safety within the organisation and develop safer and healthier ways of working. Make sure that personal protective equipment, such as dust masks, safety glasses, footwear and safety helmets, is being used in workplaces according to regulations. Make sure that dangerous materials are correctly stored. Identify and test work areas for potential accident and health hazards, such as toxic fumes and explosive gas-air mixtures, and implement appropriate control measures. Help supervise the investigation of accidents and unsafe working conditions, study possible causes and recommend remedial action. Conduct training sessions for management, supervisors and workers on health and safety practices and legislation. Communicate frequently with management to report on the status of the occupational health and safety program. Supervise over 2 Safety Engineers, 8 Safety Officers, 2 Junior Safety Officers and 2 male nurses on the Jebel Ali Airport. Ensure that all documents comply with Department of Civil Aviation-Dubai and Dar al Handasah specifications.

Position: Environmental Health and Quality Inspector
Health and quality inspection at the market. Conduct quality inspections of different products at the market. Writing reports on the products that were re-graded. Ensure that the condemned fruits and vegetable is disposed of in a safe manner. Check for the refrigeration temperatures if the fruits are stored in the correct temperature. Conduct the daily statistics of the potatoes and onions for the market. Ensuring the there is adequate poison for the rodents. Conduct the cancellations of the products in the markets if the buyers don't want it.

Position: occupational Hygienist
Identification, evaluation, and control stress factors at the Refinery, i.e. heat stress, dust, illumination and noise. Instruments used, included Drager CMS, thermometer, Wibget - heat stress monitor; Rion, Bruel & Kjaer sound level, and noise dosimeter, weighing cabinet with scale, Gillian air sampling pumps, and filter cassettes - dust. Laws attended to included OHS Act. 85 of 1993.
Reviewing ISO 1400, 9000 and OSHAS 1800 documents with the HES Officer and Internal Auditor. Obtain dangerous chemical substances from Material Safety Data Sheets, to determine threshold limit values (TLV) of different substances. Update existing information on hazardous chemical substances (HCS). Investigated health risks at the Petrochemical plant, and compiled a report. Arranging for the treatment and dumping of hazardous waste.
Writing of occupational hygiene reports, weekly and monthly report on the safety issues at the refinery. Incident and complains investigations. Buying and testing of Personal Protective Equipment. Filing and updating of the MSDS documents. Review occupational health documents. Updating of hazardous manifest and ensuring the removal of the hazardous waste. Conduct safety audits and safety campaigns. I was involved in different safety meetings example contracting safety meetings, HES meetings, Operational safety and weekly safety meetings. I was also part of the steering committee that introduces a new concept that look at workers behaviour to reduce incidents. Prepare fire drills procedures. Initiate Safety Programs. Involve in the launch of the "CAPE" (Calref Accident Prevention Environment) process at the refinery.

Position: Tutorial Assistant & Data Collector
Conducting research and data collection on pesticide poisoning amongst farm workers in the Boland Region, data collection on the water quality in the Northern Cape taking water samples and sent it for analysis. Conducting tutorials for the second year students in Environmental Health for the subject on Environmental Pollution 2 including marking of scripts and setting up practical sessions and facilitating the sessions.
