RELEVANT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

* I am able to use a variety of geological software packages including Surfer, Grapher, Ilwis, ERMapper (Earth Resources Mapper), Erdas Imagine, Rocscience and SlopeW – slope instability software.
* I have developed my geosciences skills through a range of fieldwork programmes throughout England including: North Norfolk (Quaternary geology and engineering geomorphology), Malverns (engineering rock and soil assessment), Broadway, Cotswolds (engineering geomorphology), Villerville, Normandy (geohazards assessment) and Lyme Regis (geohazard assessment).
* At the beginning of my second year I undertook a two-week field course in the Sierra Norte region of Central Spain where I enhanced my geological field and mapping techniques. This summer I will be visiting the French Alps, Provence and the Massif Central as part of a geological hazards and engineering geology study tour.

RELEVANT PERSONAL SKILLS

Adaptability
I adapted well to the change of environment when I started university two and a half years ago. I decided I wanted to attend a university that was a sizeable distance away from home so that I could broaden my horizons as it has given me the opportunity to meet and socialise with people from many different backgrounds.

Analytical skills
I have always had a good level of numeracy and my course at the University of Portsmouth has allowed me to develop my analytical skills in a variety of projects requiring the statistical analysis of data. One such time was in semester one of my final year when I completed a unit on risk analysis and assessment. Part of the unit involved an appraisal of probability models for landslide hazard mapping which involved assessing different models used throughout the world in determining landslide prone areas based on fieldwork data collection and analysis.

Communication skills
My communication skills both written and verbal are excellent. Whilst working at Accantia I was constantly communicating with the process and production supervisors as well as the chemical's manager to ensure that the manufacturing process ran smoothly and that any problems that did arise were quickly dealt with and eliminated. I had to test and pass newly delivered chemicals before they could be used to make product batches and then notify the production team of this so the chemicals could be used. Also, I had to inform the chemicals manager about what chemicals had been used that day so accurate ordering could be done for future product batches.

Geoscience skills
My course at the University of Portsmouth has provided me with a thorough grounding in many geoscience disciplines as it has a strong emphasis on developing my future professional skills. I have completed core units including geotechnics, rock mechanics, structural geology, engineering stratigraphy, hydrogeology, geoscience data analysis and modelling, spatial data acquisition and analysis (GIS and Remote Sensing), risk analysis and assessment and seismology.

INTERESTS

* Member of the Geological Society of London.
* I enjoy off-roading in 4x4s and hope to pursue this interest much more after I graduate.
* I am interested in aviation and hope to take a course so I can gain my Private Pilot's Licence after I graduate.
* I enjoy keeping fit, particularly swimming and cycling.

OTHER SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

* Computer literate – as well as previous listed IT skills, I have RSA word and text processing certificates at level 3 and experience in using Excel and Powerpoint.
* Clean driving licence.
