A senior oil and gas technologist brings over twenty years experience in progressively responsible leadership roles in the petroleum and chemical industry. A proven record in startup and management of platform and plant operations, directing laboratory functions, managing regulatory compliance, negotiating complex contracts, and delivering global technical training and support.
CAREER SUMMARY
Karachaganak Petroleum Organization (KPO) – E&P Company – Kazakhstan – 2004-2005
Hydrocarbons Specialist – As a contract specialist I set up corrosion testing, paraffin deposition test, glycol contamination testing, process optimization testing, process trouble-shooting programs. I trained 50 staff in modern laboratory procedures – GC analysis, AA, IR & UV, auto-titration, etc. Reviewed and adapted sampling and testing protocols. Served as interface between operations, engineering and the laboratory.
Intertek Caleb Brett, (Oil Inspection and Testing Laboratory- ISO 9001), 2002 to 2004.
Project Manager – SEPCO (Shell Mars & URSA) and BP/Metco (Na Kika, Horn Mountain, Pompano, Mica, King, Nile, Marlin) – Managed allocation testing program. Wrote procedures and training material, trained the staff and managed the sampling and testing. Once the program was running smoothly, my position was eliminated.
- Supported $1 Billion/mo oil and gas production
- Increased business by 50% in 2003
- Made design improvements in testing equipment to reduce testing time
- Sat in as QA Manager for 6 months while regular manager was on assignment.
John M. Campbell & Company, (Oil & gas consulting firm), 2001 to 2002
Contract Consultant - Managed and facilitated training projects for plant operators in technical operations of NGL production and gas sweetening using PowerPoint, multi-media and training manuals.
ExxonMobil, (Fortune 1/Global 1, $210.3B revenue) 1980 to 2001
Technical Advisor, 1999 to 2001 (Mobil Oil Indonesia)
- Overview – Managed and trained 24 lab techs and supervisors in sour gas processing, analysis, and wellhead testing. Served as technical lead for successful NSO plant start-up and operations de-bottlenecking.
- Accomplishments
- Reduced Mobil Oil Indonesia's produced water oil content to 10 PPM. Isolated and eliminated cause of overboard water problem at offshore platform for North Sumatra Offshore process. Eliminated a 2%+ hydrocarbon presence and severe ocean sheen accompanied by flare opacity by recommending removal of tons of solid material in free water knockout vessel and production separator. Chemical usage used to treat problem reduced from $2K/day to $30/day.
- Resolved severe foaming problem in primary contactor process. Developed special sampling procedure preventing off-gassing of CO2 and H2S in rich amine during sampling. Subsequent analysis provided data that led to resolution of the problem.
Field Chemist, 1992 to 1999 (Mobil Exploration & Production – Coden, AL)
- Overview - Delivered technical support in sour gas plant and platform including all gas and liquid analysis, corrosion & environmental testing, and boiler management. Directed and performed all lab functions (in-house & third party testing, logistics, materials, and troubleshooting), and developed additional in-house tests. Served as back-up plant supervisor while regular managers were on assignment. Delivered training, technical support and consultation worldwide to numerous Mobil facilities.
- Accomplishments - Served as start–up supervisor after major plant expansion in 1994 that doubled sour gas capacity. Received written commendation for my performance. Duties included managing operators, coordinating maintenance activities, meeting environmental lrequirements, and de-bottlenecking activiies.
- Received patent for GC method developed at Mobil Exploration & Production. Designed GC method to speciate and measure hydrocarbons that caused severe foaming in primary contactor. Enhanced filtration was introduced, foaming incidents reduced from 20/day to less than 20/year. Sales volumes increased by 40 MMCFD. Patented method was marketed by Mobil to other gas processors.
- Eliminated severe corrosion causing failed downcomer on SCOT regenerator. Isolated root cause of severe corrosion. Discovered high heat stable salts in treating solution, formed by SO2 breakthrough in upstream reactor, caused by catalyst degradation in reactor, triggered by extremely rich fuel gas used to pre-heat tail gas. Switched to sales gas for pre-heater and eliminated all corrosion problems.
- Provided technical support for corrosion issues involving pipeline scaling and corrosion, including monitoring chemical injection, failure analysis and metering issues.
- Designed laboratories, specified all equipment and methodology for gas processing facilities in Ras Laffan, Qatar and Madura, Indonesia in role of laboratory specialist with Mobil E&P.
- Provided technical support to domestic and international gas processing and oil refineries. Provided testing and technical adnvice to Singapore, SamRef (Saudi Arabia), NSO (Indonesia), Beaumont and Joliet to eliminate process problems in amine sweetening processes.
EARLY CAREER
Senior Lab Technologist - Mobil Research & Development (Paulsboro, NJ)
- Lab Technician/Leaderman, Mobil Research and Development Corp, fuel blending plant operations, product development and refinery technical support. I managed 3 technicians in an 80 tank battery from 1985-89, coordinating pipeline, rail and truck shipments and deliveries of fuel and components, blending activities, and meeting environmental and safety requirements. I also served as senior lab tech in the products group, where I directed the work of other technicians, while working on refinery and pipeline issues with engineering staff.
Lab Supervisor and Technician - E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co – Chambers Works
- Lab Supervisor - Waste water lab. I managed a staff of 18 lab technicians and managed a laboratory with a budget of over $1 MM/yr.
- Technician – Process control lab, pilot plant operations, product quality lab, basic r&d
Chemical Operator - Air Products and Chemicals, Catalyst Div.,
- FCC catalyst pilot plant production
