Completed negotiation meeting with the client regarding technical and financial proposal and get the project approved and contract agreement made. 2. Prepared ToR for individual consultants such as Environmentalist, Sociologist, Economist, Design Engineer etc. and made contacts with competent firm/individuals to ensure those inputs for the projects 3. Prepared specifications for river surveys (bathymetric, river bankline, flow and water level etc.) in accordance with the contract and deployed the survey team at the field for carrying out surveys4. Collected secondary hydrometric data (water level, discharge etc.) for the Padma River to carry out hydrological analysis at the project site in order to generate ungaugaed data at the project site with the use of MIKE 11.5. Project Feasibility Study of Padma Bridge in the People's Republic of Bangladesh

Description of the work My tasks in this feasibility study of Padma Bridge were to:1. Carried out hydroloical analysis in and around the Padma River on the basis of extreme value analysis for the annual maximum series of water levels and discharges. The hydrological years corresponding to the different flood return periods of 2-, 5-, 10-, 25- and 50-year are selected and are used as the hydrological boundaries of the 1-dimensional model to simulate water levels and discharges along the river network for the respective return periods.
2. Developed 56 km long two dimensional morphological model of the Padma River utilizing the state-of-the art tool MIKE 21C. The model was used to assess the short-term impacts on the river morphology due to construction of the proposed Padma Bridge and associated river training work. The results of this model was used to verify the hydraulic design parameters and dimension of the bridge and river training work3. Supervised river surveys (bathymetric and flow measurements) and geotechnical investigations (exploratory boring at six sites along both bank of the Padma River) in the study area.4. Carried out management and financial aspects of the project and maintained close liaison with the JICA study team members.5. Prepared quite a good number of project reports (Inception report, Interim reports on river surveys, geotechnical invesigations and mathematical modelling, Draft Final Report and Final Report) in collaboration with JICA study team members and in-house project resources.

Description of the work The aim of this project is to issue morphological forecast for three monsoons 2003-2005 for facilitating the operation and maintenance measures of the Jamuna bridge. My tasks in this study project were to:1. Prepared project proposal, submitted to the client, negotiated technical and financial proposals and get it approved by the client and made contractual agreement2. Developed two-dimensional morphological model of the Jamuna River in the vicinity of the bridge and issued forecast interms of morphological development of the river (channel planform, river bed erosion, scour development and bank erosion) before the advent of the monsoon season to assist the bridge authority for a more effective monitoring and maintenance programme of the bridge.3. Maintained close liaison with the client interms of technical, administrative and financial matters of the project.4. Prepared project reports (Inception report, survey reports, forecast report etc.) and presented the findings to the client and related other agencies.

Project Surveys and mathematical morphological modelling of the Jamuna River at Bangabandhu Bridge site

Description of the work My tasks in this bridge project were to:1. Determine 25-, 50- and 100-year return period floods through hydrological analysis to identify actual hydrological year to be used as model boundry for issuing morphological forecast in the vicinity of the bridge. 2. Issue regular morphological forecast (using MIKE 21C modelling software) within the vicinity of the bridge before the advent of each monsoon season to assist the bridge authority in planning the monitoring and maintenance measures of the bridge.3. Provide monitoring programme (cross-section, flow and bank erosion etc. in the vicinity of the bridge area) with time of monitoring and frequency of monitoring to take care of probable critical situation and thus assist the bridge authority in drawing up preventive measures for any unwanted situation that might arise for the bridge and associated bank protection work during the ensuing monsoon.4. Supervise the in-house professionals involve in the technical tasks of the project.5. Manage the project budget: maintain a financial management and reporting system for the project.6. Conducted on-the-job training programme for the engineers of the bridge authority on the state-of-the art technology mathematical modelling with MIKE11 and MIKE 21C modelling software.7. Prepared all project reports, in accordance with the contract in close collaboration with all the line specialist assigned to the project.

Assess hydrological impacts of the Jamuna bypass and railroad passing through the project area and suggest remedial measures (such as inclusion of new culverts, enhancing existing culvert opening, re-excavation of existing canal etc.) for smooth cross drainage flow.2. Supervise in developing the flood management model of CPP; the model was used to analyse the real time inundation in the project area due to breaching of the embankment through onrush of flood water.3. Estimate sediment budgeting through sediment measurement in a number of canals and rivers in and outside the project area.4. Prepare drainage inventory for the project area to identify the drainage related problems of each chawk (a small agricultural farm).5. Evaluate the performance of the constructed water management infrastructures in the project area through regular field visits and interviewing with stakeholders.6. Prepare training material on water management operation and maintenace aspects.7. Conducted training to the water management committees at different tiers for operational aspects of the water management infrastructures (such as inlet, out, regulator, bridge, culverts etc.).8. Monitor, verify and supervise water level gauges and discharge measurement stations of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) and SWMC to improve data collection program.
