Research experiences
7/2003 – present:
"Study to implement Green Boundaries on Bukom Refinery". Green belts are widely used in Singapore mainland to "segregate" industrial areas from residential sectors. We conducted a study to evaluate the possible implementation of such "green belts" in the Shell Refinery. Soil analysis, plant species, underground cables, water quality and drainage were taken into consideration and a master plan for green boundary was done.
7/2002 - 6/2003:
* Topic of my thesis for M.Sc (Environmental Management) was "Waste auditing for some brewing factories in Vietnam". My supervisor was Prof. Aziz, M.A. from Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, National University of Singapore. My thesis examined the importance of the environmental audits, evaluated their current practices and highlighted salient features of industrial waste audit with special references to the brewing factories in Vietnam. Major environmental problems including high waster consumption, wastewater discharge containing high BOD, COD and Suspended Solids (SS) and lack of appropriate wastewater treatment system were found and mitigation measures were proposed.
6/2001 - 7/2002: Researcher in Center for Consultancy, Training and Technology Transfer on Water and Environment (CTC) – National Steering Committee for Safe Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation (WATSAN) – Vietnam
6-12/2001: research on leachate treatment and management at Nam Son Landfill and environmental impact assessment for some hospital in Northern Vietnam.
1-7/ 2002: I worked in the Department of Training and International Cooperation. My colleagues and I have organised some short training courses to enhance awareness about environmental sanitation and wastewater treatment among staffs in CTC and in other companies, especially for staffs in many hospitals in North Vienam. We also have cooperated with Japanese experts under the Green Aid Program (GAP) between Japanese and Vietnamese to makes projects, to build a pilot to implement wastewater treatment in Trang An Confectionary Factory and to organise training course about the wastewater treatment technology.

3/2001 - 6/2001:
* "Effective policy and regulations for the import of recyclable waste". This was my thesis, which was a part of my Bachelor degree. My supervisor was Dr Nguyen Hong Ha, Deputy Director of National Environment Agency (NEA), Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Vietnam
9/1999 - 3/2001:
I was research assistant for Prof. Dr. Trinh Thi Thanh of Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Hanoi University of Science (HUS) in following researches:
* "The effects of pesticide and the measures to control and manage its usage". This research helped me to gain The Third Prize of The Competition "Scientific Research Student" of Hanoi University of Science in 2000 and to publish an article in The University Journal.
* "The effectiveness of socialization and the enhancement of environmental sanitation in six provinces in North Vietnam"
