A presentation was given to the water company, and a written report submitted. A second project within the option involved the sampling and evaluation of contaminated land in the London Borough of Hounslow, and involved sampling for zootoxic and phytotoxic metals in soils and groundwater.

The degree had a base in Biology and ecology, and included modules such as Fisheries Biology, Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources, Marine processes, Invertebrate Biology, Practical Marine Ecology, and Marine Biology, and provided experience of conducting scientific research on boats, as well as intensive and extensive study of marine organisms and processes in benthic and pelagic habitats.

Work Experience.

2003 Anglian Water Services Ltd. Consultancy internship.
My chosen 5 month research project as part of the MSc course focused on the problems of, and remediation technologies for odour nuisances in the UK. The sponsored consultancy style project involved a full literature review, including technical difficulties with odour detection, as well as an investigation into remediation technologies and a review of the current legal situation surrounding this issue. An experiment which involved full scale biosolids stockpiles on sites, was carried out to assess the use of compost as a cover for stockpile odour reduction.
I feel that I gained valuable experience with regard to project management, experimental design, risk assessment methodologies, and as working in the capacity of a paid consultant. The report is now being used as an internal document in Anglian water, and I received a high distinction grade of 80% for the thesis, a version of which I plan to publish in the Journal of water, Air and Soil Pollution.

2001-2002 Retail, marketing and customer services experience.
Worked as part of a small team in charge of CD wholesale in a business to business environment during a gap year. Experience with making orders, sales and invoicing, and handling cash, as well as working to deadlines and customer service.

1996-1999 Lammy House Farm, Co. Tyrone.
Worked on a family farm, and was involved in the day to day running of the business, as well as livestock management, book keeping and agricultural markets. I have developed an understanding of agricultural procedure and policy, and the environmental impact of commercial agriculture.
