WORK EXPERIENCE:
Environmental Engineer, AMAI, White Plains, NY, July 2004- Present

Conducting, coordinating and overseeing field sampling programs including, slug tests, soil sampling, indoor air sampling, sub slab and groundwater sampling using low flow and purging three well volume techniques.

Preparing tables and site maps detailing the spread and magnitude of contamination in various media; groundwater flow maps and calculating volume of contaminated soil; for various industrial sites.

Quarterly monitoring the progress of a pump and treat remedial system and natural attenuation as the remedial alternative at two active contaminated industrial sites.

Coordinating field and office activities by preparing monitoring well diagrams using GINT software, soil boring logs and interacting with data validators.

Designed a SPLP sampling procedure to determine the leaching characteristics of manufactured aggregate, and modeled the fate and transport of manufactured aggregate leachate to predict impact to groundwater using Industrial Waste Evaluation Model (IWEM).

Prepared National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Program (NPDES) permit application: forms 1, 2C, 2F for an existing chemical manufacturing facility.

Carried out human health baseline risk assessment for contaminants present in soil and groundwater, using risk assessment guidelines for superfund (RAGS) Part D procedures for an existing pharmaceutical facility and oil refining facility.

Reviewed 168 environmental site investigation reports carried out at various gas stations in order to assess the extent of contamination in various media in each individual gas station. Based on the review an approximate remediation cost for all gas stations was determined to assist the client in purchase negotiations.

Currently working on a remedial investigation/feasibility study for a major pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.

Tasks composed of examining numerical and computational issues related to the transport of sequentially decaying chlorinated solvents with conditions applicable to flow through a permeable reactive barrier (PRB) and for natural attenuation conditions.

Two numerical solution approaches namely the explicit finite difference and the operator splitting approach were used to solve a one dimensional equation governing the transport of sequentially decaying chlorinated solvents.

Computational simulations were carried out using a single processor, as well as the message passing interface (MPI) on a 32 processor Dell Linux cluster to analyze the run time requirements and accuracy of the numerical solutions.

Results of the numerical solutions exposed inadequacies in an analytical solution technique developed for the same problem which has been implemented in BIOCHLOR.

Designed and manufactured a material handling system for a gear manufacturing chain comprising of six machines.

Relevant Projects Completed:
Developed semi analytical solutions for sequentially decaying reaction products in groundwater based on Laplace transformations. These semi analytical solutions address scenarios in which groundwater is flowing through a permeable reactive barrier (PRB), and contaminants are decaying over time at the entrance to a PRB (decaying source entrance boundary condition). At the exit to the PRB two exit boundary conditions namely: a constant concentration and a zero gradient exit boundary condition were considered. Jan 2003

'Watershed delineation for the five great lakes', implemented using ArcView GIS 3.2. This project was carried out using digital elevation model data and an Avenue script to analyze the various hydrologic features pertaining to the flow of water to each of the five great lakes. Apr 2002-May 2002

'A remedial investigation and a feasibility study for the Bethlehem Steel Plant situated at Lackawanna New York'. The objective of this project was to examine conceptual approaches to remediate the site, contaminated due to the presence of coke production wastes and steel slag. Nov 2001-Dec 2001

'A risk assessment due to exposure to arsenic present in surface soils at the Peter Cooper Gowanda site'. The risk assessment was based on the exposure scenario to on site adults as well as to an on site child using the exposure routes of inhalation and oral ingestion. Oct 2001
