To Whom It May Concern:
I am applying for the position of Real Estate Manager. I have a JD as well as an MBA in finance. I was a trial attorney in land use, entitlements, construction and real estate transactions for seven years prior to entering the mining industry. I have been a land manager for 2 mining companies, and have had a positive impact on both through my acquisition, entitlement, permitting and project management skills.
At Zemex Industrial Minerals where I was the land manager, I negotiated the acquisition of approximately 1000 acres of mining properties through acquisitions and leases. I was instrumental in the organization of the drilling and due diligence programs, responsible for over 20 employees and consultants. These facilities were mining mica, feldspar, and kaolin clay. I was responsible for 15,000 acres in seven states, with seven processing facilities, and was responsible for all acquisitions, leases, sales, permitting, construction management and due diligence testing.
At Zemex I acquired a 250 acre site that was located in both Georgia and Florida, and permitted the site for mining of kaolin clay, as well as movement of a grave yard to allow the mining of over 1,000,000 tons of material. I also worked on the permitting of a 500 acre feldspar mine adjacent to a national park. I further instituted program changes that increased our mining practices to increase profit per ton through more efficient project management.
I am presently managing 4 mining operations in Nevada comprising over 1500 acres, and am responsible for all contract negotiations, permitting, construction supervision and due diligence for our facilities. I have permitted a 250 acre site for rock and sand mining on a 24 hour 7 day a week schedule. I am presently in negotiations with the Bureau of Land Management for a 680 acre mining site that we have completed our due diligence on and will have in operation in the next 12 months. I manager over 20 employees and consultants in my present position, and have increased revenues through increased production hours and implementation of better mining practices reducing cost per ton of finished products.
I am interested in the opportunity you are offering at Rio Tinto as I would like to work overseas, and join an organization where I can better utilize my skills, and grow with the company. I reviewing your web site I am very impressed with your organization and the value you place on your workers. I am a very hard worker, have excellent references from my employers, and am very thorough in my analysis and contract negotiations.
