Site Investigation:
Chevron Corporation, Northern California-Provided in-house consulting to a Superfund Property Management group Senior Project Manager, to support the Historical Pipeline Portfolio of 130 projects. (Budget $2-6 million, Supervised 1-2).
Hess Corporation, New Jersey - Managed the investigation and remediation of 20 active and inactive retail service station sites in NJ. (Budget $175,000, Supervised 2)
Western Pacific Housing, Northern California – Prepared several Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) according to ASTM protocol as due diligence for the property transfer of several former agricultural (potentially pesticide-impacted) sites planned for residential use, and traveled to the sites to conduct surface soil sampling. (Budget $35,000).
City of Oakland, Oakland – Co-prepared a Phase I ESA of forty-four downtown Oakland city blocks for a city sewer upgrade project. (Budget $25,000).
Remediation:
BP/ARCO, Northern California-Managed the large-scale bioremediation system Operations & Maintenance (O&M), permitting, reporting, design review, health & safety compliance, and client meetings for the Richmond fuel terminal. Prepared the RAP for bioremediation and phytoremediation at the Stockton fuel terminal. (Budget $750, 000, Supervised 3-5).
Chevron, Shell, BP/ARCO, Northern California - Managed and/or was assigned to numerous service station and fuel terminal sites, generally soil and groundwater investigation and remediation projects resulting from a combination of Underground Storage Tank (UST) releases and historical property management practices. (Budget $750,000, Supervised 1-2).
ExxonMobil, Unocal, Tosco, Northern California – Managed and/or was assigned to over 50 service station and fuel terminal sites, generally soil and groundwater investigation and remediation projects.(Budget $60,000, Supervised 4-6).
Myers Container Corporation, Oakland – Wrote a Corrective Action Plan for Hydrogen Release Compound (HRC) injection at this SVOC-impacted former drum reconditioning facility.
Merced Street Property LLC, San Leandro – Prepared the bid package and management cost estimate for a Two-Phase Extraction system. Designed the system and oversaw construction of the wells. (Budget $250,000, Supervised 1).
U.S. EPA – Provided third-party technical review of Soil Vapor Extraction system operations and O&M manuals created by the U.S. Air Force for the McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento.
Database/Web Applications:
Hess Corporation, New Jersey, Pennsylvania - Consulted to technical team on improvements to environmental field and laboratory database/website interface. Provided interpretation of NJ Technical Regulations. Worked with contracted laboratory and field support.
San Francisco International Airport, San Francisco – Repaired and re-designed a Microsoft Access database for Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan reporting and contractor performance tracking, which included information on over 3,000 sampling points and 300 contractors. (Budget $25,000).
Scotts Valley Water District, Scotts Valley – Designed a septic tank investigation project for groundwater policy assessment which included a door-to-door survey, septic additive toxicity research, field mapping, reporting and client meetings.
Waste Management:
East Bay Municipal Utilities District (EBMUD), Northern California– Designed and prepared a Trench Spoils Sampling Plan for characterization and disposal of 250,000 cubic yards of waste soils, according to U.S. EPA SW-846 sampling protocol, for both the Briones and Sibley landfills. (Budget $100,000, Supervised 4).
Financial/Insurance:
AIG Environmental, San Francisco (sites in South Bay and Sacramento) – Conducted Pollution Legal Liability Loss Control Site Surveys of three sites, a semiconductor fabricator and two coal gasification plants, working from the phone survey information provided by AIG Environmental consultants. (Budget $20,000).
Wells Fargo Bank Private Client Services, Monterey (site in Berkeley) – Maintained direct client interaction and prepared a UST Fund reimbursement application for a site with extensive legal involvement spanning 10 years. (Budget $20,000).
Permitting:
Port of Oakland, Oakland – Managed EBMUD Wastewater Discharge Permit sampling, analysis, and reporting. (Budget $225,000, Supervised 2-3).
Contract Managament:
Chevron, California - Managed the invoice reviews of subcontracted consulting firms.
City and County of San Francisco Department of Public Works (CCSF-DPW), San Francisco - Managed an as-needed Asbestos and Industrial Hygiene contract. (Contract value $1 million).
Planning:
Duke Energy Power Services, Morro Bay and Moss Landing – Prepared the Transmission Line Safety & Nuisance, Cultural and Archaeological Resources, Land Use, Soils, and Hazardous Materials Sections of two power plant Applications for Certification for submittal to the California Energy Commission.
Nextel, Northern and Southern California – Completed CEQA/NEQA checklists for numerous proposed cell tower installations. (Budget $100,000).
Health & Safety:
Kinder Morgan Energy Partners (KMEP), Northern California – Prepared Emergency Response scenario papers detailing HAZWOPER response instructions in emergency situations (e.g., fire or tanker spill). These were used for health and safety training of KMEP staff.
Facility Audit:
Hetch Hetchy Water and Power (HHWP), Northern California – Prepared a policy summary paper on the proper disposal of PCB-contaminated oil from transformers for use by HHWP environmental management. Conducted facilities audits of Rock River Lime Plant and Warnerville Switchyards and Maintenance Yards as part of a four-person, three-day onsite field team. Prepared Hazardous Materials Business Plan maps and Emergency Response Plan flow charts.
Research:
Chevron - Contributed to the Consistent Technical Approach and Crude Oil Study, and provided peer review of both documents.
Union of Concerned Scientists, Berkeley, California - Researched the full-cycle emissions and efficiencies of various alternative fuels: Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), biodiesel, and gasoline with and without MTBE. Information was used to create a policy paper advocating the use of CNG/LNG over gasoline and biodiesel.
Modeling:
Mobil Oil Corporation, Northern California - Prepared input files for a custom client database under the supervision of two PhD hydrogeologists to model groundwater conditions at a highly impacted site.
