Anvil Mine Ltd which has its headquarters in Perth has a mine located in the Katanga Province of the Democratic republic of Congo ( DRC)called Dikulushi Copper and Silver Mine.. It is an underground mine. The management first contracted the mining and mine planning and design of the mine to South African who could not mine it effectively and efficiently. Hence the contract was abrogated and given to Byrnecut Mining Ltd international who have rich expertise in both mining and mine planning. Hence I was transferred from Burkina Faso to DRC with following principal accountabilities:
Set up database to capture all activities and generate reports. Provide an effective short term mine planning service for the operation to maximise recovery of reserves by ensuring efficient supervision and allocation of duties including underground design, three month rolling plans, reforecast plans, underground layouts, dump designs and mine scheduling.
Provide a geotechnical monitoring and design service to operations to ensure stability of drive and pillars by ensuring professional geotechnical analysis is performed and integrated with mine designs.
Provide technical assistance with comparisons, financial evaluation and equipment selection decisions, by analysing the production and cost performance of the mobile fleet and provide professional advice on industry developments and new technologies,
Ensure zero Lost Time Injuries for the mine planning and survey section by complying with WPCL safety policies and applying natural duty of care.
Contribute to the company's obligations under environmental regulations by ensuring that all employees within the mine planning and survey sections are aware of and comply with the environmental requirement of their role as per the WPCL environmental management.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the operations by identifying and implementing improved ways to complete tasks and managing projects of a varying nature including continuous improvement projects.
Support the total manpower requirement of the Technical Services Group by carrying out any duties within ones competence which will provide or leave relief as required.
Review the mining method when appropriate with aim of improving production.

Perkoa Zinc Project is a new underground mine project which needed the services of an experienced and seasoned mine planning engineer to carry out the following Coordinating,: directing and managing the entire mine activities including life of mine plans, strategic planning, budgeting, staffing and cost containment. To ensure that the LOM plans and Short Term plans for the mine are generated to meet the annual targets within the stipulated time. Produce comprehensive and timely daily, weekly, monthly reports of project status to Headquarters, Perth and allied corporate management staff. Generate mine designs for both development and production operations. Generate effective short and long term planning, scheduling, and survey control. Ensuring the appropriate levels of interaction with the project department heads of various disciplines so as to control cost and meet targets. Effectively lead and manage the department.
Responsible for the implementation of the project on a timely manner. Prepares annual production, development and financial budget for the section / mine.
Ensuring costs are Controlled and minimized and ensuring all statutory requirements associated with the mining are compiled. Provide operational and management support on contemporary engineering issues.
