A total of thirty-nine years of experience as a civil engineer, software support analyst, software validation analyst, software trainer, and database administrator. Presently with Bentley Systems, Inc. (See http://www.bentley.com.) as a software support engineer for GIS, MicroStation CAD with database linkage, and raster imaging.

GIS Software

Combined twenty-four years of experience as a software support analyst for two major GIS software companies: Bentley Systems, Inc. and Intergraph Corporation. Worked with ESRI ArcGIS, Bentley's MicroStation GeoGraphics, Bentley Map, Intergraph GeoMedia / GeoMedia Professional / GeoMedia WebMap, and Intergraph MGE (Modular GIS Environment). Worked with Oracle, Oracle Spatial, Microsoft Access, and SQL Server software.

Surveying/Mapping

Supported, tested, and trained COGO software, electronic survey data collection software, geodetic network adjustment software, photogrammetry software, map feature coding, and webmap software at Intergraph. Hired and managed survey crews and draftsmen at a coal company. Extensive knowledge of map projections and coordinate systems. Was formerly a licensed surveyor in Kentucky.

Highway/Railroad

Extensive COGO route alignment experience. Worked with survey crews and updated railroad maps for CSX (C & O at the time). Estimated cut/fill earthwork quantities and performed survey stakeout calculations for a consulting firm. Performed highway and bridge geometry calculations for a consulting firm. Worked with software at Intergraph that was the predecessor to Bentley Systems InRoads.

Computer Programming

Have worked with web scripting languages: HTML, ASP, JavaScript, and VB Script. Have written a software applications in Microsoft Visual Basic. Developed an ecommerce web site to sell the software. See http://www.canneddoit.com. Presently developing an application using C#.

Computer OS/Software Skills

- Customer support for GIS software: MicroStation GeoGraphics, Bentley Map, ProjectWise Oracle Connector, and PW ArcGIS Connector. Support for issues related to database linkage to MicroStation CAD files, and raster imaging software.

Dec 31, 1984 – Jan 12, 2005: Support Consultant – Intergraph Corporation
- Database Administrator for the Mapping division's customer support tracking database.
- Customer support, training, and software validation for various GIS, surveying, civil engineering, photogrammetry, and digital terrain modeling software packages.
- Maintained files for software fixes and information on Intergraph's Bulletin Board Service for the Mapping division.
- Managed a group of employees, responsible for validating software, along with customer support and customer training of surveying and digital terrain modeling software.

1976 – 1984: Mine Planning Engineer – Ashland Coal, Inc. (later merged with Arch Mineral to become Arch Coal)

- Hired, equipped, and supervised the surveying crews of the startup company and supervised drafting personnel.
- Evaluated coal properties and prepared mine plans.
- Supervised the mapping of mine operations and establishment of survey control for aerial mapping.
- Developed surveying software, software to compute coal quality, and surface mine coal reserves.
- Surface mine permitting and dam design.

1975 – 1976: Engineer – Boyd County Coal Company a subsidiary of Kentucky Road Oiling

- Calculated construction material quantities in a successful bid of a highway project.
- Survey stakeout computations for highway projects.

1973 – 1975: Field Construction Representative – Appalachian Engineers, Inc.

- Inspected, and administered controls on the construction project of a sewer collection system and water distribution system.
- Handled construction related issues from residents of the affected community.

1972 – 1973: Engineer – Westmoreland Coal Company, Inc.

- Reported the construction progress of a preparation plant and mine installations.
- Responsible for insuring that water quality for bath-houses from wells was safe.
- Surveying and drafting work, and calibrated conveyor belt scales.
- Performed the survey stakeout calculations underground for the installation of a mine slope with a vertical curve.
- Designed a storage shed for storing mine parts, a workshop for repairing mine equipment, and a low water bridge.

1971 – 1972: Engineer – C&O Railroad (now CSX)

- Surveying and mapping work in the Construction and Surveys Division.

1970 – 1971: Engineer – J. E. Greiner Engineering Company
- Checked bridge steel shop drawings for a 5 mile bridge across the Chesapeake Bay, bridge geometry calculations, bridge decks, and abutment design.
