I initially attended the West Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education for an OND technical illustration course. However, as my work was of a consistently high standard during the first year of the OND course, I started the HND course a year early. Both courses consisted of general, architectural and technical illustration, using a variety of different media. I also studied graphic design, typography and printing practice, airbrush techniques and computer graphics.

29/09/08 – To Date Contract Technical Author – GE Aviation (Cheltenham)
GE's Aviation Systems is a leading global provider of electrical power systems, avionics, actuation and landing gear, aerostructures and propeller systems to the builders and operators of military and civil aircraft.
My responsibilities are to maintain the Electrical Power Management System's qualification-by-similarity documents for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. The writing tools are MS Word and Excel. GE has extended my contract several times (due to finish 26/06/09).

05/05/08 – 19/09/08 Contract Technical Author – Siemens (Genoa, Italy)
Siemens is an international manufacturing and software development company. The Genoa site is responsible for developing software for a globally established automation system designed to solve a comprehensive range of automation tasks in all industries.
My responsibilities were to write and maintain documentation for the SIMATIC IT suite of automation software. The main writing tools were RoboHelp and MS Word; all documents were stored using Clearcase.
A major part of my work was to proofread the work of the non-native English-speaking technical authors. I was also involved with creating guidelines (and where appropriate, give training) on how to write technical documents.

15/01/07 – 02/05/08 Contract Technical Author – STMicroelectronics (Bristol)
STMicroelectronics' Bristol Design Centre is an international hub for many ST activities in digital consumer-products that require expertise in microprocessors, Audio/Video technologies and advanced software development.
My responsibilities were to maintain both customer-facing and company-confidential documentation for many of ST's System-on-Chip development toolsets. The main writing tools were FrameMaker and WebWorks.
As part of the documentation process, I used the software toolsets to program evaluation boards. This was so that I could both verify the existing documentation, and gain a full understanding of the development systems, embedded applications and debuggers. I was also involved in writing datasheets for the SoC evaluation and development boards. ST extended my contract several times.

14/06/04 – 12/01/07 Technical Author – ABB (Stonehouse)
ABB is a worldwide manufacturing company. The Stonehouse site manufactures analytical and flow-measuring equipment for industrial applications such as water treatment plants, power stations and chemical plants.
My responsibilities were to produce and maintain all the user documentation for a wide range of water analysis and flow meter products. I also created context-sensitive on-line help for many of ABB's software applications. The main writing tools were Structured FrameMaker, PageMaker (MAC and PC), Freehand and MS Word.
As part of a project to convert all the PageMaker documents to FrameMaker, I developed all the Structured FrameMaker EDDs and templates.

02/09/01 – 11/06/04 Senior Technical Author – Torex (Banbury & Bromsgrove)
Torex (now iSOFT) is a software solutions provider for both primary care (doctors' surgeries) and secondary care (hospital) applications.
My duties were to produce on-line, context-sensitive help for Torex's flagship product Premiere Synergy. I also created much of the training material for Premiere Synergy. The main writing tools were Dreamweaver and MS Word.

26/02/01 – 15/06/01 Contract Technical Author/Illustrator – Marconi Communications (Coventry)
My responsibilities were to produce graphical instructions for building complex electronic/optical modules. The systematic instructions enabled shop-floor manufacturing personnel to build the modules with little or no supervision. The writing tool was CorelDraw.

21/08/00 – 18/12/00 Contract Technical Author – DecisionWorks (Ealing)
My main responsibilities were to produce user instructions for a suite of data analysis tools. Other duties included providing a marketing support role by producing PowerPoint presentations, illustrations and a variety of other material. The main writing tools were Ventura and MS Office.

10/7/98 – 18/08/00 Senior Technical Author – Avery Berkel (Smethwick)
My duties were to produce user and service instructions, complete with appropriate illustrations for a wide range of electronic weighing machines. The main writing tools were Interleaf, Ventura, CorelDraw and MS Office.
During my time with Avery Berkel, I instigated a system of document issue control linked to a publications database. I was also involved with updating the DTP capabilities of the department in order to improve the readability, style and quality of the publications.

05/12/94 – 27/03/98 Desktop Publisher/Technical Author – Malvern Instruments (Malvern)
My duties included the writing of user, technical reference and service manuals for a range of laser-based particle sizing equipment. The main writing tools were Ventura, CorelDraw and MS Office. Other duties included specifying/creating illustrations, liaising with printers and maintaining the publications database (which I created using Microsoft Access).

This was initially part-time but later full-time when I left the Education Psychology Service. My duties were to produce plans and artefact drawings for a number of archaeological sites around the country.

My duties were to produce technical illustrations for a variety of clients such as Lucas Aerospace, London Underground and National Power. I was also sub-contracted to Rolls Royce on a number of occasions.

I was solely responsible for producing all the illustrations of the bronze, bone, iron and stone artefacts as well as the plans and sections of the Romano-Celtic temple at Caerwent in Mid Glamorgan.

I produced drawings of artefacts found during excavations at a number of archaeological sites within South Wales.

I consider myself to have good communication skills and enjoy working as a part of a team. I am also fully capable of working on my own initiative and, when required, can work effectively from home. I am capable of adjusting my work methods to suit the requirements of each project and can often complete unrelated tasks without endangering project schedules.
