Key Activities

RF and BSS:
As a Technical Support and Field Engineer (BSS/RF), following responsibilities are undertaken:
Reporting weekly RF and BSS hardware problems with recommendations
Investigation of failures on Bsc,Trau,PCus as per customer needs.
Troubleshoot BSS level, cell level, and carrier level problems
Statistical and parameter based network optimization
Provide second-line support on GSM BSS and RF issues
Commission and integrate new cell sites (BTS) into an existing GSM network
Commission BSC, Transcoder, and PCU systems
Perform drive-tests for newly commissioned sites using TEMS Investigation
Calibrate various BSS hardware including digital radios
Carry out Acceptance Test Procedure of newly commissioned sites with the customer
Enhanced Data for Global Evolution (EDGE): Provisioning of EGPRS option on the BSCs
Provisioning of EGPRS on cells through OMC-R
Drive-testing using TEMS and Customer Support
General Packet Radio Service (GPRS): Support Engineer for a commercial GPRS (BSS) network

GSM SITE SURVEY ENGINEER 2005 jAN - jUNE 2005

Network: Ethiopia Telecom Corp. (ETC) – Nokia, Ericsson systems.

Key Activities

The identification and location of potential (NEW) RF and transmission ( repeater ) sites using GPS equipment, Digital and Geological maps as tools.
The collection of site data for each potential location leading to a full description of each site.

The determination of the relative elevation of natural terrain and obstacles between interconnected sites through a topographical map study or Line of sight surveys.
Full Line of Sight tests using Baloons and or Flash Lights.
Surveys done closely with the RF Planning and Transmission Planning Team to validate the Results of The Planning Tools.
Conducting a field survey to corroborate the results of the map study, eliminating less than optimum site locations, and identifying potential problems, peculiar items (man-made obstacles) not evident from the map study.
The final selection of sites, together with the formulation of final site and path data.

The accuracy of these reports was determined by the care taken to describe the certain fundamental site and path parameters. These included, items found on topographical maps and site visitation. The accuracy of the items listed being a function of my ability to read maps and determine site conditions. The field study provided the basis upon which system parameters were established, performance calculations were made and analysis was conducted.

RADIO INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING ENGINEER (mOTOROLA & ERICSSON BSS)
& Satellite Station Engineer (Vsats) NIGERIA & ZIMBABWE 2001 jUNE - jAN 2005

Key Activities

Installation, Commissioning & Integration of BSS Network Elements involving ERICSSON: RBS 2000, 2102, 2106, 2202, 2206 & 2302(micro & pico ericsson base stations)
* Mikom repeaters MR350 bts & remote, R351 bts remote units, Ericsson GSM repeaters.
TRANSMISSION NETWORK microwave radio links both long and short hauls or access links as well as optical fiber txn systems.
* Commissioning and troubleshooting microwave radios such as Harris, DMC, Codan, Nera and Ericsson Minilink, DMR/CE (13/15/18GHz), Transmission Network Management System DMC - Spectrum II.

Extensive Setting up and Testing of Mini-Link microwave radios and radio links of low, medium and high capacity being either long or short haul. Ability to Test radio during installation, commissioning and integration for RAU or INDOOR units(SMU,MMU,SAU,AMM) as well as IF cables for functionality conforming to proper standards and specifications.
Ability to Test traffic routing capabilities AMM backplane run on site hop stability tests using BER or link analyzer to ensure adherence to Link Budget parameters.

SATELLITE EARTH STATION (VSATS).

Worked on Satellite earth Station for International Voice & Internet communication for the mobile network.
* Worked on the 16m ( standard A ), 7.2 m and 9m Antennae system.Modems and UP/Down Converter systems, Digital Multiplex system, SSPAs and the LNAs.
Involved in the planning of New Carriers and the upgrades of the existing services such as VoIP.

* Troubleshooting on VSWR and antenna system Verification & testing of test calls, handovers & external alarms. Perform BTS configuration changes, BTS hardware expansion (up-grades/down grades TRX) Support site expansions and implementation of new features.
* BSC O&M skills (including alarms, backups, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, SW management) Troubleshoot the critical & major alarms of the BSC's and BTS. Excellent testing, troubleshooting, and supervisory skills.

POSITION: BSS RADIO ENGINEER ( MOTOROLA AND ERICSSON BSS)

* Updating and backups of BSS software
* Test and integration of Horizon macro BTS series, BSC's and Transcoders
* Radio network Optimisation eg neighbouring cells,timing advances,handover parameters
* Configuration of connections and assigning of devices in the BSS network
