Covering statement

M y work over the last 3 years has been as a Hydrogeologist employed by the International Committee of Red Cross in Liberia, Darfur (Sudan) and Ethiopia. This focused primarily on the locating and construction of waterpoints for rural communities. I covered very large field areas in all countries (average of 12,000 sq km) and grew to understand regional geology throughout all these theatres. I have a particularly applicable geological knowledge in relation to NW Liberia and N Ethiopia, both of which have attractive mineralised zones. I believe I can assist exploration companies to quickly identify prospects and also to build working relationships with local communities. In all postings I had national staff and commonly stayed in the field over extensive periods. In Ethiopia I work alone with local staff in a community where only 1 other expat is present. Part of my work involves liaison with authorities. My posting in Liberia was Voinjama.

While Ethiopia has considerable potential it is attractive to exploration companies due to its arid landscape which allows easy field and areal image observation. Therefore many strong prospects are already being investigated. By comparison Liberia is heavily forested and difficult to explore. Furthermore, the Liberian people are more difficult to work with i.e. often not trustworthy. Gaining licences in Liberia is also problematic as corruption amongst officials is common.

Because of these factors I consider Liberia a better prospect - providing the correct field operations are in place. During my work there I discovered regions which I believe had a high chance of being mineralised. There is also a pattern in NW Liberian geology which narrows down exploration targets. Liberian gold deposits are likely to be epithermal or placer. Nevertheless, exploration in Liberia is very tough physically with considerable health and safety risks.
