Current employment involves working on a unique Down-Hole gauge for the oil industry jointly developed by a major oil company. The gauge is a communication system expected to revolutionise methods for data acquisition and control of Down-Hole devices. Roles and responsibilities include:

„X Working for short periods abroad as part of an efficient and successful small team completing field trials and installations at various oil well locations throughout the world. Such places include the UK, The North Sea, Nigeria, Texas, and Holland.

„X Assisting the research into electromagnetic signal propagation through oil well casing.

„X Writing Test Schedules and designing test tools for high temperature Down-Hole production circuit boards.

„X Providing support documentation and software to assist the development of the Down-Hole gauge.

„X Dedicating long hours for the success of the project and to meet very tight deadlines. Here regard for both logistical and personnel planning are essential to ensure successful field trials and installations.

The placement year coincided with the start of the Down-Hole gauge development programme giving me first hand experience of initial design cycle and prototyping within a small team involving many disciplines. The undergraduate roles and responsibilities included:

„X Investigating the induction of electromagnetic data signals into existing pipeline infrastructures to interface a pipeline communication system. The experiments focused on using toroid theory and inventing a new method for easy on site installation with optimal performance. The method resulted in a successful patent application.
