Worked as a Senior Process Engineer supervising a team of 3 other engineers in charge of the Relief System / Relief Valves and major Control valves related to the installation of a new Hydrogen Compressor package at the BP Bulwer Refinery. Reviewed relief scenarios, compiled and checked calculations, sized relief valves and control valves and prepared datasheets.

b) BP Kwinana Refinery – G10 Diesel Capability Project (June 2007 – Aug 2007)

* WorleyParsons MEG: Lead Process Engineer – August 2005 to December 2005 (Calgary, AB, Canada)

MEG Energy – Worked as an Area Lead in charge of the BFW and Steam Generation systems for the FEED and partial Detailed Engineering phases of a 30,000 bpd SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) Oil Sands facility. Prepared Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), performed equipment sizing calculations (pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, control valves, PSVs), compiled calculation documentation, and assembled equipment data sheets.

* Acres Parsons E&C: Intermediate Process Engineer - February 2004 to July 2005

a) Petro Canada Mackay River – Extended Study Work (April 2005 - Present)
Involved in study efforts to evaluate the impact of design options on the overall Capital and Operating cost estimates for the proposed Commercial Facility. Assumed a lead role for the work involving steam co-injection with various solvents (diluent / butane) and assisted in the work related to the following: evaluating varying plant capacities; the impact of modifying the SOR (steam to oil ratio); utilizing a fractionator for enhanced diluent recovery; using eductors for steam re-injection at the wellpads.

b) Petro Canada Mackay River / Meadow Creek - SAGD Conceptual Engineering Study (Oct 2004 – March 2005)
Utilized HYSYS to simulate the complete 40,000 bpd SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) Oil Sands facility. Compiled the related Heat and Material Balances and assisted in the development of the PFDs and the Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) document. Sized vessels, pumps, and tanks and used ACX and STX to size Air Coolers and Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers. Completed equipment data sheets and wrote technical memorandum documents.

c) ConocoPhilips Surmont SAGD Phase 1 - SAGD Detailed Engineering Work (Feb 2004 - Sept 2004)
Carried out equipment sizing, package specification, line sizing, PSV sizing, and design calculations related to the production treating train for a commercial Oil Sands facility focusing on the Vapor Recovery Unit (VRU) and Slop Oil Treating systems. Created PFDs and P&IDs. Participated in HAZOP review meetings with the client, operations personnel and vendors.

* Bantrel: Intermediate Process Engineer - Sept 2003 to Feb 2004

EnCana Foster Creek SAGD Phase 2 - Performed Value Engineering Studies related to the Conceptual Engineering work in an attempt to optimize the design and lower the capital costs prior to proceeding with the Detailed Engineering work.

* Japan Canada Oil Sands (JACOS): Intermediate Process Engineer - June 2002 to Sept 2003

SAGD Commercial Facility - Oil Sands Thermal Recovery
Involved in the conceptual design of a SAGD Commercial Facility for Japan Canada Oil Sand. Simulated the complete process using HYSYS, conducted process studies, optimized heat recovery / heat integration within the plant, prepared PFDs and P&IDs, compiled heat and material balances, sized related equipment (exchangers, tanks, pumps, vessels, compressors, etc), evaluated capital and operating costs, assisted with the compilation of the commercial cost estimate, and participated in HAZOP reviews. I also carried out tasks related to upgrading the existing Pilot Facility.

* Alberta Energy Company (AEC): Intermediate Process Engineer - February 2001 to May 2002

a) SAGD Commercial Facility - Oil Sands Thermal Recovery (August 2001 - May 2002)
Process Engineer in charge of the preliminary Design and Optimization of the second phase of a large scale commercial SAGD project (FEED). Extensively utilized HYSYS to perform process optimization and feasibility studies and evaluate heat recovery and heat integration options. Conducted Front End Engineering Design (FEED) work; prepared PFDs, P&IDs, and heat and material balances; completed equipment cost estimates and economic evaluations; assisted in the compilation of the Design Basis Memorandum (DBM), Basic Engineering Data and the Equipment Specifications. Evaluated surplus equipment (pumps, vessels, tanks) and performed hydraulics calculations.

b) VAPEX Pilot Facility Design - Enhanced Heavy Oil Recovery (Feb 2001 - August 2001)
For this project I worked along side the Reservoir Specialist in the development of a Pilot Facility that would pioneer the VAPEX (VAPor EXtraction) heavy oil recovery process. This process employed the injection of a chemical solvent into the reservoir to interact with / dilute the Bitumen and result in a free flowing product which could be extracted. I modeled the complete process on HYSYS and was involved in interviewing potential engineering companies to oversee the detailed engineering and construction work. Performed site visits and coordinated the pilot work with field operations.

* Alberta Energy Company: Intermediate Process Engineer - May 2000 to February 2001

Heavy Oil Battery Upgrades / Zero Emissions
Involved in the expansion of a heavy oil battery which included the implementation of the new Zero Emissions environmental policy (collection of all produced vapors) and involved the addition of sour gas treating and gas compression equipment. Simulated the process using HYSYS, evaluated capital and operated costs, sized equipment (exchangers, tanks, pumps, vessels, compressors, etc), performed hydraulics evaluations, prepared PFDs and P&IDs, and participated in HAZOP reviews.

* Macdonald Engineering Group: Process / Mechanical / Project Engineer - Nov 1995 to March 2000

a) Suncor Energy Incorporated - SAGD Commercial Facility - Oil Sands Thermal Recovery (June 1998 – Mar 2000)
Functioned as an Intermediate Process Engineer for the Front End Design of the Firebag Phase I Commercial SAGD facility. Simulated the complete process and performed design and feasibility studies using HYSYS, STX, and ACX. Optimized heat recovery and heat integration. Prepared PFDs, P&IDs, and heat and material balances. Studied the option of steam generation with power co-generation. Specified equipment and assisted in the compilation of the project cost estimate. Compiled all related design notes, process calculations and study reports.

b) Gulf Canada Heavy Oil - Satellite & Battery Design (Oct 1997 - June 1998)
Employed as a Mechanical / Process Engineer to configure the piping gathering system for a multi-well / multi-satellite system and aid in the design of the Battery (storage) facility. Configured the layout for the well flowlines and group satellite lines. Analyzed the flowline and gathering system hydraulics (single / multiphase) using Pipeflo. Performed process analysis and optimization relating to condensate recovery using Hysim. Specified and evaluated pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, utility systems, and flare systems. Prepared and issued RFQ's (requests for quotation) and PO's (purchase orders).

c) Unocal Canada - Water Injection Facility / Gas Well Gathering System (Aug 1996 - Oct 1997)
Husky Oil - LACT Metering Skid Addition / Gas Well Tie-ins (Nov 1995 - Aug 1996)
For these two projects I was the designated Project Engineer. I outlined the project schedule, specified and purchased all equipment, monitored all related project costs, prepared the required permit applications, developed PFDs and P&IDs, performed hydraulics analysis, system optimization and production forecasting.
