Currently working as Bechtel's Deputy Project Manager for the $ 3 billion BTC Project for BP with prime responsibility for all commercial and contractual matters with BP, including the Project Offices in Azerbaijan and Georgia. Acted as Proposal Manager for Bechtel's successful bid to BP.

1991 - 1998 J Ray McDermott Director of Special Projects

Part of the Senior Management Team with two main areas of responsibility:

A. Joint Ventures

Responsible for the relationship between McDermott and ETPM for all major projects in the North Sea & West Africa. This included reviewing all aspects of the JV activities including bidding strategy, contractual matters, commercial structuring, risk management / mitigation, pricing and project performance, plus claims/dispute resolution.

B. Commercial Development

Senior member of the team leading negotiations and carrying out due diligence for prospective mergers and acquisitions. These included:

- the merger of the McDermott and Brown & Root fabrication yards in Scotland to create BARMAC
- the proposed merger/acquisition of Stolt Comex Seaway
- the sale of McDermott Engineering to Aker Oil & Gas
- the sale of MSCL to ETPM
- the acquisition of Northern Ocean Services from Cable & Wireless

I was instrumental in the business planning, strategy and early implementation of a new start-up company (McDermott Submarine Cable Systems) to enter the fibre optic cable installation market. This included the formation of several strategic alliances with major existing industry players plus the acquisition of ships and capital equipment.

1988 - 1991 BP Ventures Commercial Development Manager

BP Ventures is the BP vehicle to develop and commercialize its new technologies. I acted as Commercial Development Manager to the MDs of the Business Units in the UK, USA and Spain to assist them to develop strategies to maximize NPV. These business included Kaldair (flare and PSA technology), Kalsep (filtration) and BP Solar. This included assisting them in developing their long and short-term business plans and financial forecasts, and in then implementing those strategies.

1982 - 87 Single Buoy Moorings General Manager & Project Manager
(Monaco & S E Asia)

SBM is the leader in the engineering & design of offshore loading systems. I initially worked in Monaco as Senior Contracts Engineer on several North Sea projects including the Statfjord C Loading terminal. After the success of these projects I was promoted to General Manager for South East Asia, based in Manila. The main operation comprised a Floating Production vessel (FPSO) on long term charter to Amoco. I was responsible for over 70 staff and a turnover of US$ 20 million. I negotiated the transfer of the FPSO to bareboat charter with the new client and moved back to Monaco as Project Manager for several smaller projects in SE Asia and West Africa.

1977 - 82 Brown & Root Senior Contracts Engineer
(London & Bahrain)

I joined B&R on their Graduate Training scheme. I worked initially in London as a Contracts Engineer and then moved to their fabrication yard in Bahrain as Planning & Scheduling Engineer. I was then promoted to Senior Contracts Engineer negotiating contracts for offshore and onshore projects.
