* Through determination, presence, and persuasion increased production from 17,000 tons/mo. to over 20,000 tons/mo. by redirecting maintenance to focus on long term improvements.
* Changed Q.C. philosophy from retroactive to proactive. Solving quality problems on the inputs and making decisions based on current data.
* Completed a geologic study of the McCook quarry and found a flux stone reserve worth $1.25 million in savings for the lime plant.
LAFARGE (Formerly Blue Circle Cement), Birmingham, Alabama 2000 to May 2002
Shift Supervisor
Supervised and trained production crew of 30 operators, including 10 direct reports. Ensured efficient, safe operation of two dry-process cement kilns, pre-heater pre-calciner kiln, a pre-heater lime kiln, a quarry producing 5 million tons per year, a raw mill, two finish mills, a hydrator, and a pack house.
* Unified a highly fractured group of union and replacement workers in the aftermath of a strike.
* Improved output 25% by motivating employees to work together, take ownership of their jobs, take responsibility for and not be afraid to report their own mistakes, and to stop sabotaging equipment.
* Learned to recognize, respond to, and prevent potential problems.
* Supervised and responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of hourly employees in quality control and testing.
* Supervised and directly worked with maintenance repair and preventive maintenance activities for the plant including all mobile machinery also supervised maintenance improvements.

* Brought quality control out of lab and into plant by introducing Dr. Deming's philosophy to workers.

Responsible for quality control and ISO 9000 qualification at McCook lime plant. Managed flux stone exploration, interpreted geological rock layers, and performed geochemical analysis.
* Led quality department in the development and implementation of laboratory standards, production targets and procedures including ISO 9000, and Operational Excellence.
* Analyzed test data and worked with vendors to ensure quality of testing.
* Provided support to sales with investigation and resolving customer complaints.
