EXPERIENCE: Saudi Aramco (April 1982 till December 2005)
Yanbu NGL Plant: October 1988 till December 2005.
Shedgum Gas Plant: August 1986 - September 1988.
Ras Tanura Refinery: April 1982- July 1986.

Worked as a senior Process/Operations Engineer for Yanbu NGL Plant, which includes fractionation columns, treating modules, refrigeration and tank vapor recovery units. Duties included providing technical service to the operating personnel, engineering analysis and the development of recommendations and alternatives in the solution of operating and process problems in the NGL Plant. Duties also included process design for long term projects and the preparation of design packages for in-plant modifications. Responsibility also included conducting feasibility and long range studies to optimize the plant operation and performance. I also conducted computer simulations of the plant process units to identify bottlenecks and enhance units performance. One of my major duties was also to train and develop the younger engineers.

The major projects I was involved in during my work in the NGL Plant included: the addition of a new deisopentanizer to recover isopentane for gasoline blending; modification of the propane tanks vapor recovery system to reroute the tanks vapor to the propane refrigeration unit under certain operating conditions and consequently shut off the compressor dedicated for vapor recovery; installation of a new deethanizer column with super capacity trays to upgrade the NGL Plant throughput; inplant modification to allow the separation of refrigerated from non refrigerated propane so that the ethane content of the non refrigerated propane can be increased; installation of an injection system to add propane to butane and benefit from the price differential between propane and butane; upgrade of the propane and butane Merox systems by enlarging the holes of the sieve trays of the extractor columns; design of a steam blanketing system for a condensate drum to control its pressure.

Prior to working for Yanbu NGL Plant, I was assigned to Shedgum Gas Plant, where I worked as an operation/process engineer for about two years. The gas plant includes DGA treating units, liquid recovery modules and a Claus unit, in addition to NGL fractionation columns. Main duties also included providing technical support to operating personnel and working on long term projects to enhance the plant operation. One of the major projects I worked on during that period was the debottlenecking of a condensate H2S stripper, by correlating field data and computer simulations. Also worked on designing a hydrocarbon liquid recovery system for a gas slugcatcher.

My first assignment with Saudi Aramco was at the Ras Tanura Refinery, where I also worked as an operations/process engineer for more than four years. Duties included providing technical service to the operating personnel in the resolution of day to day problems, optimizing the plant operation and conducting feasibility studies to enhance the plant operation and performance. Responsibilities also included process design for long term projects and the preparation of design packages for plant modifications. Specifically, I was assigned to the following areas within the refinery:

Crude Topping Unit – Crude Stabilization Unit – Distillate Desulfurization Unit - Residue Re-run Unit – Distillate Treatment Unit - NGL Fractionation and Treatment Unit - LPG Compression and Deethanization Unit

Procon Inc. (Subsidiary of UOP) (October 1978 to January 1981)

Worked as a process and project engineer for Procon, Inc. in Los Angeles, California. Duties primarily included the process and equipment design for different refinery and petrochemical facilities. This involved developing process flow and piping diagrams, equipment specifications and ratings, heat and material balances and interfacing a complete design package.

C.F. Braun & Co. (December 1977 to October 1978)

Worked as a process engineer for C.F. Braun in Los Angeles, California. Duties included the process and equipment design for different refinery and petrochemical facilities. This involved developing process flow and piping diagrams, equipment specifications and ratings, heat and material balances. My main assignment included the process design of a Hydrogen Plant and a Gas Processing Unit for Petro-Canada in Alberta, Canada.
