Employed as marine engineer on a sub contractor basis, working in the luxury yacht sector and leisure craft industry.
1998- 2001 Marine Diesel Services
Working on a self employed basis in Grangemouth docks servicing and repairing tug boats and fishing vessels.
1986-1998 Franchised Tool Salesman
Self employed franchised tool salesman, selling garage tools and equipment to the motor trade.
1980-1986 Service Engineer
Working with Aveling Barford on the range of earthmoving equipment produced by the company. The equipment covered dump trucks from 17 to 50 tons, wheeled shovel loaders, graders, and a range of road rollers from 30 cwt. to 10 tons. As an international company, overseas visits were a part of the work load, and involved contracts to, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia, Oman, Iraq, and India, to install new equipment and maintain existing equipment.
1978-1980 Transmission Technician
Working with Blackwood Hodge initially inspecting new equipment as manufactured by Terex. Promoted to transmission section for training on servicing, repair, rectification, and overhaul procedures on all transmission units as fitted to the range of equipment.
1976-1978 Service Engineer
Working with T.W. Ward as a mobile service engineer servicing and repairing a wide range of plant and hydraulic excavating equipment.
1969-1976 Marine Engineer
Joined British Merchant Fleet as junior engineer and was gradually promoted to third engineer. Duties included watch keeping on main engines and generators, and all auxilliary equipment simultaneously. 18 months of service on an oil drilling and exploration vessel.
1964-1969 Apprentice Diesel Mechanic
Taggarts B.L.M.C. Dealership. Trained in all aspects of the repair and maintenanance of commercial vehicles.
Further Training. Gained the city and guilds certificate in automotive engineering.
Mitchell Diesel Ltd. Completed course of instruction on Detroit Diesel V71 series engines tune up and preventive maintenance.
Cummins Diesel Ltd. Completed course of instruction on maintenance and service of "N" series engines.
