DETAIL WORK EXPERIENCE AND ACHIEVEMENTS:

EXPERIENCE DETAILS: SEPT'2000 – 2004 TILL DATE: KNPC, MAB REFINERY, KUWAIT.

Employed by Heston Kuwait Trading Company, I Joined Process Engineering department of MAB Refinery, KNPC on 4th Sept-2000 to provide technical support for ensuring optimum operation of assigned units in line with company strategies while maintaining the established industrial standards and performed the following jobs during above period: -

DAY TO DAY MONITORING OF PLANT PERFORMANCE AND TROUBLE SHOOTING:

Monitored Hydrogen generation units, Hydrogen recovery unit, Hydrocracker unit till August-2002 and thereafter engaged in monitoring Utilities sections till date. Kept vigilance on product yield & quality and necessary actions advised to avoid any quality slippage / giveaway.

Prepared monthly reports on the assigned units, Fuel Oil & Gas consumption reports and Quarterly Identified Loss reports.

While monitoring HCR, estimated weekly Cut Point & Conversion and advised Operations accordingly for necessary actions. Units operating data sent to Chevron.

Carried out trouble shooting on H2S slippage in old H2 unit reformer during Nov-2000 and assisted operation to normalize the unit.

Carried out comparative performance of reformers in Natural Draft vs. Balanced draft and prepared report on savings based on actual balanced draft operation of reformers since Feb-2001.

Studied the frequent foaming phenomena in Benfield ( CO2 absorption) system in hydrogen plant and advised to maintain minimum level of DEA % and also advised for cleaning of packing as a long term solution. This was recorded as an action item while participated in Hydrogen Best Practices.

Identified areas of hydrogen losses.
Prepared list of process lines of containing H2S in ppm level of above units as required by Corrosion & Inspection.
Optimized fuel consumption by minimizing usage of Fuel Oil in Boilers.
Participated in carrying out performance of New SSRP boilers.

MONITORING OF CATALYST PERFORMANCE, CONSUNPTION OF CHEMICALS, STOCK LEVELS AND ARRANGE FOR THEIR PROCUREMENT UNDER EXPENSE BUDGET:

Carried out performance of Hydrogenator, Reformer, HTSC, LTSC & Methanator catalysts to ascertain % conversion and predict the life to enable planning of next replacement schedule and accordingly prepared Tender documents for catalyst replacement.

Reviewed the stock of catalysts available in warehouse and JSI stocks and necessary actions were initiated to transfer some MAB stocks to JSI stocks to minimize inventory.

Reviewed inventory of catalysts available in all three refineries in MAA/SHU/MAB for hydrogen plants including the existing purchase orders. Also reviewed catalyst replacement plan of each refinery in next five years. Under coordination of MAB, series of joint meeting was held among three refinery's process representatives and action was initiated to bring all the catalysts on a common platform to make maximum use of them and avoid any unnecessary purchase order by individual refinery.

Reviewed VEC files on catalysts as and when came and issued technical comments on the same.

Stock situation of fresh and regenerated catalysts of HCR was reviewed before July-August, 2001 replacement and ensured availability of the same before loading activity started.

Consumption and stock availability of Chemicals like MEA, DEA, DIPA, K2CO3, Anti-foam & DMDS, etc. were regularly monitored and actions were initiated by raising MR for each to maintain 18 months stocks as per the present strategy.

Vendor's offers were reviewed for compliance of technical specifications and performance level, and procurement order was accordingly advised to Purchase Department.

Carried out physical inspection of Catalysts and chemicals received in warehouse and acceptance was given if the same was found in order, and any short comings were brought to the notice of management for correcting the same.

CATALYST LOADING ACTIVITIES, PLANT START-UP & SHUT-DOWN:

Technical support was given during ZnO / CoMo catalyst loading of Hydrogenator in Dec-2000.

Technical support was given for PSA catalyst replacement and software change during July-August,2001and suggested to carry out the same skid by skid instead of completely shutting down the unit to avoid HRU feed flaring and loss of H2.
After catalyst replacement and commissioning, performance test of PSA was carried out to check guarantee on load, recovery & product purity, and report was released on the same.

Technical support was given in HCR unit's shut-down, catalyst unloading & loading of both stages, sulfiding of the catalyst and start-up of the unit and Prepared complete report on the same.
Technical assistance was also given in transferring unloaded catalysts of HCR to M/s AL-BILAD for regeneration.

Reconciliation of both PSA & HCR catalysts was done by accounting all the SIVs & RTVs for clearance of payments to vendors and amortization for next procurement plan.

PROPOSING MODIFICATION WHEREEVER REQUIRED & RELAESING PROCESS SCHEMES:

Simulated old unit reformer feed circuit across feed pre-heaters and prepared the process specification of equipment for replacement.
Prepared detail procedure for unification of start-up procedures of old and new hydrogen plants.
Worked on modification of trip logic of new reformers so that during power failure reformers should not go to minimum firing, instead should change over from balanced draft to natural draft to maintain the production of HP steam.
Prepared scheme for silencer for WHB to avoid noise during start-up.
Prepared schemes for standard N2 connections and prepared schemes as action items of HAZOP study of hydrogen units and Utility sections.

ENERGY CONSERVATION IN THE REFINERY:

Started activities on energy conservation since Sept-2002 for optimization of Fuel Gas & Fuel Oil, Steam let- down station, recovery / venting of excess LP steam, sea cooling water, flare loss etc.

Started preparing ENCON report which cover efficiencies of al the furnaces, flare losses, tank evaporation losses, status of HPRTs in high pressure system and product coolers inlet temperatures highlighting the scope to recover the potential energy. Also developed the procedure for various Energy Indices of the refinery by adopting the methodology of M/s Solomon Associates and preparing monthly Energy Index reports.
Prepared process inputs for Shell Bench marking and Solomon study of MAB Refinery and participated in HAZOP study of units.

EXPERIENCE DETAILS: MAY'1998 to SEPT-2000: HPCL, BOMBAY REFINERY, INDIA.

Worked as Manager-Process Analysis and Design of Technical Services Department in HPCL Bombay Refinery, India and supervised / guided the team of process engineers to cater process engineering services to all units of Lube Refinery in the areas of troubling shooting, process designing and development of various proposals to enhance productivity.
