A. Project-work

1. Iran Project
- Economic analysis for investments,
- Exploration – Geo-physical study (gravity & magnetic survey, resistivity sounding), Diamond core drilling

- Focal point for and coordinator of various disciplines within the project team to ensure effective work flow and decision making.

2. Nickel
Business objective: Economic extraction of nickel;
- Study and examine the industry and its future potential, new projects, demand-supply gap, price-substitute dynamics;
- Preliminary assessment in light of shift in industry's cost curve;
- Examine and evaluate suitable technology option;
- Examine project feasibility at various industry costs, market prices and substitutes;

B. Global Sourcing

1. Coking Coal, Coke & Limestone
- Sourcing of raw materials as per quality, quantity and schedule requirements and budgeted costs; sustainable development of reliable vendors.
- Understand and develop knowledge on coking coal and coke market, demand/supply, price movements, regulatory/policy issues, shipping;
- Networking for reliable, real time, secondary market information;
- Develop buying strategy, annual plan, and compliance parameters;
- Assess strengths of coke and limestone suppliers, for developing them into long term business partners,
- Translate the key technical requirements into commercial terms;
- Continuous monitoring and understanding of formal/informal feedback from user on 'key performance indicators';
- Assessment of service level required and develop service providers;
- Optimization plan for logistics;
- Work in MM module of SAP

2. Non ferrous metals (Zn, Ni & Sn)
- Study of market fundamentals;
- Price hedging through LME futures and (for Sn) options;
- Development of cheaper substitutes;

C. Exports
Iron Ore
- Study and analysis of business environment, product market, demand/supply, price movements, customers and characteristics of their process inputs/buying strategy, competitors, regulatory/policy issues, shipping;
- Development of a new reliable customers;
- Segmentation of market and customers, positioning as 'a supplier of choice' in target segment;
- Credit ratings, formulation of and compliance to credit plans;
- Strong & effective liaison with strategic partners and government agencies;

D. Trading (New Business)
1. Iron Ore
- Identification of reliable suppliers and their strengths in logistics / material source;
- Optimization of logistics;
- Designing optimum financial instrument to ensure performance in volatile prices;
- Initiate measures to obviate any bad debt, in volatile prices;

2. Tin
- Risk management – market/credit/marine risks;
- Develop stable supply partner of LME grade material;
- Develop & implement strategy to capture the retail segment, with secured credit;
- As agents of LME ring member, provide value added services to customers;

E. Domestic Minerals Sales
Iron Ore, Manganese Ore, Dolomite
- Bidding, negotiation and finalization of contract terms and price;
- Order execution;
- Management of receivables;
- Management of customer complaints;

F. Mining Production
Opencast
Metal Mine # 'No incidence' pattern of safety standards;
- Attain targets in volume, quality & schedule of production;
- Close cross functional coordination;
- Continuous improvements in machine and manpower productivity;
- Reduction in costs of inputs and 'cost of poor quality' (COPQ);
- Audi tee for ISO 9002 certification.

Major achievements
- Set up breakthrough price levels for iron ore exports – standard set up for the industry to follow;
- Partial replacement of coking coal by cheaper substitute in sinter making;
- Increased market share of tin from 12% to 54% in 2 years.
- Complete development of a new source of limestone, which subsequently became our JV partner;
- Initiated system of linking non conforming quality product to the first stage of production – won best 'Quality Improvement Project' award amongst the mines owned by the company.
