1. Thesis: GEOMETRICAL FACTORS AFFECTING THE STATIC STRENGTH OF A TUBULAR K-JOINT IN OFFSHORE STRUCTURE

Abstract:
A series of nine static strength tests were performed tubular K joint in this study. To study this problem, finite-element method is a useful tool and effective method was chosen. The aim of this paper is to study the static strength of K-joints subjected to analyze the model in difference thickness ratio, t and to compare with API (American Petroleum Institute) thickness ratio standard. The finite-element method is adopted in numerical parametric studies. The strength of the tubular structure is influence by geometric properties and material properties. The models were loaded by static axial loading until the joint achieve ultimate point. The individual influence of the geometric parameters in thickness ratio, on the ultimate strength is made clear. The results show the size of thickness may have important effect on the strength of the tubular joint. It is found that ultimate strength of K joint can be improved by increasing the ratio of the thickness.
