Application for offshore Hydraulic crew post/ Riggers post

I would very much appreciate a chance to work in the offshore oil industry. Although I am a Qualified Hydraulic Specialist I have done an Off Shore Survival Course, and SAMTRAC through NOSA. I would like to enquire as to the possibility of employment as E.H.S. Officer, or, as part of a Hydraulic Crew or ROV Trainee, or any other position your company would suggest, on one of your offshore installations. I am more than willing and prepared to begin at the bottom and work my way up in your organization. As can be seen by my credentials I am a fast and willing learner.

At present I have no offshore experience and am thus very eager to actively participate in any training course(s) you expect me to attend and complete successfully in order to achieve my goal.

Assist with Construction of Electric Arc Furnace Hydraulic Systems including: a. Hydraulic Pipe Work in Hydraulic Room from Pumps to Valve Stands b. Hydraulic Pipe Work from Valve Stands to Furnace 1 and 2, Roof Lifting Cylinders, Roof Slew Motors, Roof Loosening Cylinders, Roof Elbows, Emergency Hydraulic Panels and Electrode Arm Turret. c. Charging of Hydraulic Accumulators. d. Flushing of Completed Systems. e. Tracing and Connecting of all Hydraulic Pipes to Cylinders, Motors, Pumps, Valves etc. f. Commissioning of Systems. All of the above mentioned installations were done by bending 8mm up to 42mm stainless steel and carbon steel hydraulic tubing as well as installing ½" up to 24" stainless steel and carbon steel schedule piping. All pipe work was done with the assistance of coded welders.

My contract at SMC was ended upon the completion of the Steel Making Side of Saldanha Steel. An American Contracting Company – CBI, did the Iron Making Side of Saldanha Steel.

3. Fluid Flow Contracting up to 15 September 2008

Occupation: Hydraulic Specialist / Sales Manager.

a. As Hydraulic Specialist I did the flushing of the pipe work at the Corex at Saldanha Steel in conjunction with Raur Rine Chemicals for CBI b. As Hydraulic Specialist I did repairs on various Hydraulic Pumps, Motors, Cylinders and Valves directly for Fluid Flow Contracting. These were done in the workshop as well as on site. (The main make names dis- tributed by Fluid Flow are Parker, Vickers, Eaton, Charlyn, Bosch and Danfos, and thus I know them very well.)
c. I visited Industrial Sites to look at jobs, determined what spares will be needed, calculated how long it will take to do, considered safety aspects and all special equipment that will be needed to carry out particular installation or repair. d. Assisted with building of Hydraulic Power Packs and test Benches at Fluid Flow Workshop e. Assisted with planning, developing and manufacturing of a new Accumulation System at Pendulum Shear Hydraulic System at Continuous Caster at Saldanha Steel.
f. Worked on Shut Downs and Breakdowns at all hours of day and night. g. Was head of the day shift working on the repair (reinstall all hydraulic, pneumatic, water and grease pipes) at the Saldanha Steel Electric Arc Furnace Shell 1, after a Burn Through. Also lead the night shift repairing all of the same pipes at Saldanha Steel Electric Arc Furnace Shell 2, after a Burn Through.
h. Made up Hydraulic Hoses from single wire to multispiral hoses. i. Was part of the team Installing new Clay Gun and Drill on Furnace 2 at
Namakwa Sands Saldanha j. Designed and assisted in manufacturing of a Portable Tap Floor Drill for the Corex at Saldanha Steel. k. Modified Grease piping, Hydraulic piping and Water piping on Continuous Caster Segments to ensure quicker and easier changing of Segments on Breakouts and standard Maintenance. l. Was part of a 2 man team installing a 3" Pneumatic line complete with Dryer / Heater at Iron Granulation Plant at Saldanha Steel.
m. Designed 3" Refill line for Oil from Total Bulk Area to Continuous Caster Bulk Tank. (+/- 420m). Engineered Installation, Cleaning and Commissioning of line. n. Designed, contracted outside company for manufacturing, and was part of the 2 man team installing the Bin Opening & Closing Mechanism for
Tail end Bins on Mine at Namakwa Sands Brand se Baai.
o. Overall did various large Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Grease and Water Instal- lations at Namakwa Sands Saldanha, Namakwa Sands Brand se Baai, Saldanha Steel, Duferco Steel Processions, Southern Seas Fishing, Marine Products, Oranje Vis and Saldanha Fish Canning Factory. a. As Sales Manager all Incoming and Outgoing Sales were handled by me. I made sure that prices quoted corresponded with prices on delivery notes. I made sure that deliveries to the Stores were done on or before the dates stated on the clients official orders. I worked closely with the Workshop Manager to make sure that delivery notes for completed jobs went out in time to be signed off by the Client. b. I did Field / Site trips to look at jobs, ascertain what spares will be needed, calculated how long job will take to do, considered all safety aspects and special equipment needed to carry out installation or repair. c. Communicated with Clients to ensure that I know exactly what the client wanted done and made suggestions on how to do work in the Fastest, Safest and most Cost Efficient way. d. Also informed New and Existing Clients on what services and products we could provide them. e. Assisted Store Personnel at times when high volume of equipment was received from Suppliers and booked out to Clients. f. Did Quality Control Inspections on items received. Made sure that items were in sealed containers that part numbers, prices and quantities corres- ponded with order placed with Suppliers. g. Did Quality Control Inspections on items being booked out to Clients. All items specially manufactured by the company was to have Job Number stamped on it, must be sealed in a container, and must be accom- panied by a test certificate where applicable, in the correct quantities. h. Did Quality Control Inspections on items being booked out to Clients. All items received from Suppliers and supplied directly to Clients, were checked against the Clients Order to make sure that correct items, quantities and pricing were received. I also made sure that goods such as pumps, motors, valves and cylinders had test certificates supplied by the Main Supplier. Furthermore, I made certain that all threaded parts were protected. i. I followed up on orders and late deliveries and communicated with Client i.c.w. expected arrival date etc. j. Wrote official failure reports to Suppliers if goods supplied did not conform to standard of quality. k. Attended meetings at Distributors to keep up with latest equipment and procedures. l. Where items could not be obtained from local Distributors, I went on the internet to source goods from other Distributors, both in South Africa and Overseas. m. Sent enquiries to various Distributors / Suppliers to obtain the best Prices and Contracts.
