Work History
Dundee City Council, Caird Hall (Dundee) – Fire Steward: August 2003 – June 2007.
Security
Working in a busy musical theatre, I was tasked with the collection of tickets and showing customers to their seats. The role involved regular customer interaction and also was heavily focused on teamwork. As a result, my inter-personal and time management attributes were vastly improved. Before I left to pursue my postgraduate degree, I was awarded a Disclosure of Scotland certificate allowing me to deal with those under 16. This, I believe, highlights my dedication to fulfil my potential and to ensure I could perform the role to the best of my ability.
Dundee City Council, Customer service: Summer 2003-2004
As an integral part of the customer service team, I was assigned the role of working in the Leisure Park to ensure customer satisfaction. I undertook the role as a minimum wage summer student, however, my employers were so impressed that they asked me to take up the role on a full time basis. However, I did not want to jeopardise my University studies and so decided to see part time employment elsewhere. During my tenure I gained many valuable skills, particularly in terms of communicating with customers and carrying out set tasks. I enjoyed the role and felt I played a pivotal part in ensuring the safety of those visiting the leisure park.
St. Marys post office, Temporary assistant: Summer 2001-2002
During my summer term as a school student, I wished to gain an understanding of personal responsibility and to improve my knowledge of working in the customer service sector. With this is mind, I undertook a role as a shop assistant in a local post office. My main roles included administrative tasks such as unloading and labelling stock and ensuring the till balanced at the end of the day. This role allowed me to work closely in a small team of fellow employees thus improving my ability to work as a collective unit. Further, it was my first experience of full time employment and so my levels of responsibility and time management were drastically increased. I left the role to return to school, however I impressed to such a degree, that I was invited back to work in the summer of 2002.
High School of Dundee (weekends) – 1997-2000
I was always interested in sports and so, having played for the school team in the morning, I volunteered to be a ball boy at the High School of Dundee Rugby matches. I was given a nominal fee for my role and so, even at a young age, was given the responsibility of working for remuneration. My role centred around following tasks efficiently to ensure everyone enjoyed their visit to the rugby ground. During my tenure, I was thoroughly integrated into the family atmosphere and actually ended up playing for the rugby team myself.
Achievements and Positions of Responsibility
Played rugby for Dundee High School Former Pupils (2006-2007).
School rugby 2nd t XV vice-captain (2002).
School athletics captain (2001 and 2002).
Caledonia district rugby player u18 levels (2000 and 2001).
Skills and Interests
I display exceptional competence with IT, particularly Microsoft Office applications.
Fitness is a key focus in my life and I attend a gym on a daily basis.
Other areas of interest include current affairs, golf and cinema.
Member of the forensic science society.
Driving Licence: Full / UK since September 2001
