- Senior Drilling Engineer with 11+ years of experience in a multitude of diverse onshore and offshore drilling projects in various locations worldwide with Occidental Petroleum, Unocal, Spirit Energy and Santos.
- Demonstrated knowledge of core Drilling Engineering aspects, i.e. drilling program preparation, well/casing design, directional drilling equipment and trajectory planning, drilling fluid (water based and synthetic systems), cementing, drill bit selection and optimization etc., well cost estimating and reporting, establishing and tracking drilling Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
- Thoroughly skilled in planning, coordinating and executing new rig start-ups as well as monitoring/managing daily drilling operations.

Staff Drilling Engineer (Rig Based Rotational Position)
- As an active member of the Optimization Team, provided rig level engineering support in designing, implementing and assessing cost reduction opportunities and drilling optimization initiatives. Actively participated in rig move planning and execution thus reducing Rig Ensign 18 rig move time by average 1 day.
- Monitored daily drilling operations and submitted recommendations to Drilling Team with an aim of improving wellbore quality and operational performance. Achieved reduction in hole related non-productive time in greater Tindilpie area in Cooper Basin by an average of 36 hours/well by optimizing drilling fluids and drilling practices.
- Participated in implementation of various safety initiatives. These included leading Stop for Safety toolbox meetings, attending Weekly Safety Meetings at various rigs to re-iterate Company's HSE policies and participating in Pre-spud Rig Inspections and Hazard Hunts.
Staff Drilling Engineer (Office Based)
Cooper Oil Project
- Received Santos Managing Director's commendation on successful start-up of 3 highly automated drilling rigs in 4 months. These rigs were first of a fleet of 4 rigs brought in from overseas to onshore Australia. Also managed start-up of 4th new rig.
- Assisted Drilling Contarctor to improve EHS and operational performance by jointly reviewing contractor's procedures, Task Risk Assessments and Job Hazard Analysis for critical, hazardous or non-routine operations.
- Engineered, designed and prepared Drilling Programs and executed day-to-day rig operations for 3 drilling rigs simultaneously, averaging 12 wells per month.
- Achieved greater than expected drilling performance through closely managed optimization and improvement plans. Within 6 months of start-up rigs averaged 1,962 spud-ft/day vs. initial 830 spud-ft/day, 2.5 days for spud-to-TD for 4,900ft wells.
- Participated in creating efficient "dual system" drilling fluid recyclable for several wells. Up to 35% reduction in drilling fluid cost achieved.
- Spearheaded a structured drill bit trial and redesign program aimed at creating fit-for-purpose bits with improved ROP and durability. Collaborated with Smith International, and Hughes Christianson to systematically identify most suitable bits, organize and monitor field runs, analyze run data, re-engineer bit based on findings and trial redesigned bit. Set new ROP benchmark of 352 ft/hr. Average ROP increased to 250 ft/hr compared to previous 110 ft/hr average. Boosted durability yielded up to 6 re-runs while previous bits achieved maximum of 3 re-runs.
- Introduced simplified drilling BHA design that reduced handling time, made most efficient use of fully automated pipe handling system and removed the majority of high exposure manual handling. Reconfigured BHA saved approximately 2.0 hours / US$5,000 per well.
Special Projects
Casing Drilling:
- In conjunction with Hughes Christianson, Weatherford and Extreme Machining (local machine shop) engineered and field trialed several different fit-for-purpose Casing Drilling Shoes and accessories. Reduced Drill Shoe cost by 40% and proved rig time saving of up to 35%.
- Co-authored SPE/IADC Paper 105395 - Casing Drilling Step Improvement: PDC Successfully Drills Out Casing Bit and Finishes Hole Section at Lowest Cost.
Pad Drilling
- Coached Junior Engineer in planning, organizing and executing major Pad Drilling project consisting 3 deep gas wells of which 2 were directional. Spud to TD of 2nd directional well reduced by 27% through optimizing BHA, drilling practices and drilling fluid.
CO2 Injection Wells (Enhanced Oil Recovery)
- Formulated and appraised conceptual drilling plan for first phase of Tirrawarra Enhanced Oil Recovery Project estimated at U$325 million. Wells to be directionally drilled from pads located in environmentally sensitive area.
Other Responsibilities
- Performed duties as Drilling Manager, Drilling Superintendent and Drilling Team Leader when delegated.
- Developed and monitored KPI's as Contract Representative for Drilling Rig and Cementing Services contracts.
2004 Unocal Bangladesh Limited, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Discipline Drilling Engineer
- Generated bid strategy, technical and commercial specifications, bid evaluation score card and draft contract documents for Cementing, Directional Drilling, MWD and LWD, Open & Cased Hole Wireline Services, Wellhead, Tubular Running and Mud Logging contracts. Evaluated bids and awarded contracts valued at approximate total of US$ 35 million.
- Prepared project plans including risk assessment, well design, well cost estimate etc. Optimized drilling program with high potential of saving more than US$ 6.3 million from drilling budget.
2001 to 2003 Unocal Thailand Limited, Bangkok, Thailand.
Discipline Drilling Engineer
- Customized well plans for several mature gas fields to mitigate concerns such lost returns, ballooning & well control. Evaluated, identified and implemented improvement opportunities resulting in total savings of US$ 3.1 million over a 7 well project.
- Participated in design and field trial of unique casing accessory "Hole Finder Guide Shoe" which dramatically increased frequency of successful surface casing runs to TD. Trial proved potential of saving up to US$ 18,000 per well by reducing lost time in re-drilling surface hole.
- Effectively reduced non-productive time in tubular running by 16% by creating and implementing Contract Score Card system as Contract Manager. Achieved record of 57 joints/hour of 2-7/8" tubing running speed.
- Managed procurement of tangible items such as OCTG and completion equipment and administered Directional Drilling, Tubular Running Services, Casing Drilling, and Drilling Fluids service contracts for average 250 wells/year.
- Actively participated in Completions Optimization Team to change over from R to X Nipple. Negotiated and secured procurement contract saving US$ 1.2 million over 3 year period.
- Successfully completed TRSSV Failure in Gulf of Thailand research project as Team Leader of TRSSV System Improvement Team. Presented recommendations to management and implemented same which has decreased failure frequency from 9.8% to 5%.
- Performed as relief for Drilling Superintendent.
Night Drill Site Manager (Night Rig Supervisor)
- Engaged in Tender & Jack-up rigs, supervising drilling of more than 115 wells to an average depth of 12,500ft MD. Hands on experience in drilling highly challenging directional wells, majority being 3D wells, utilizing directional assemblies and Adjustable Gauge Stabilizers.
- Executed several casing drilling projects and 1st phase of Ultra-slim well design.
- Zero recordable injuries while in Drill Site Manager position.
2000 Spirit Energy Inc., Lafayette, Louisiana, USA
Drilling Engineer
- Prepared well plans and packaged regulatory applications for several Gulf of Mexico drilling projects.
- Evaluated Slim Hole Well Design for several Gulf of Mexico projects. Detailed engineering and economics of drilling 12-1/4" & 8-1/2" vs. 9-7/8" & 6-3/4" holes and presented recommendations to management.
- Organized and executed turnkey project of running connector type drive pipe without utilizing jack-up rig. Delivered savings in excess of US$100,000 by minimizing production shut down and rig time.
- Participated in revising drilling related Safety & Loss Control Policy manuals.
Trainee Night Rig Supervisor
- Supervised Jack-up rig engaged in drilling, completion (fracturing, gravel packing and perforating) and well abandonment projects in Gulf of Mexico.
- Won Safety Champion Award for active participation in raising safety awareness on the rig.

- Assisted Senior Drilling Engineer in conducting technical and financial study of mono-bore well design for drilling the 1st Mono Bore design well in Bangladesh. Involved at rig site during project execution.
