Summary of Experience
Experience has been obtained over 30 years in the mining and mineral processing industry working as both a mining engineer and metallurgist in both technical and operational roles. Senior positions held have included Chief General Manager; Resident Mine Manager; Mine Superintendent; Metallurgical Manager; Principal Mining Engineer and Project Manager.
Experience has included Project Manager for Tanami Gold's Coyote Bankable Feasibility Study; Resident Manager of the Lynas Find Gold Project from construction to the end of the first year of operation; and the mine development of the Marandoo Iron Ore Project as Project Engineer Mining. As Chief General Manager Haoma Mining I was responsible to the Executive Chairman for all exploration and operating activities of the company.
I am currently employed as the Project Manager for the Siana Gold Project in the Philippines.
Other management experience has included feasibility studies; project management; contract administration, preparation and negotiation; tender evaluation; liaison with statutory authorities; joint venture representation; annual and quarterly report preparation for the ASX. Mining experience has included underground and open pit operations, mine design, planning and scheduling, supervision of both mining contractors and a company owned and operated mining fleet. Metallurgical experience has been gained in a range of commodities including refractory and non refractory gold ores, nickel, copper, bismuth and tin. Research Fellow, Curtin University, Underground Monorail Project.
Consulting services to Conquest Mining NL; this included reviewing corporate and management procedures, writing a procedure manual and supervision of diamond testing at Ellendale 17.
Project Manager Tanami Gold, Coyote Bankable Feasibility Study. The project included both underground and open pit mining; liaison with statutory authorities and supervision of external consultants.
Consulting mining engineering, metallurgical and general management services to Haoma Mining. This included the management of a feasibility studying and final open pit mine design for accessing the post joint venture ore at the Nolan's Gold Project. Preparation of an open pit mining contract and subsequent tender evaluation and negotiation for the Nolan post joint venture mining. SEPT 1998 – JULY 1999– Arimco Mining Pty Ltd – Resident Manager – Gidgee Gold Mine.
Responsible for the daily management of the mine site, including an underground mine, several open pits and an 800,000 tonne per annum carbon in pulp treatment plant. Underground mining techniques included long hole open stoping, air leg and room and pillar.
Achievements included the development of the Swan Bitter underground mine, development of a new open pit mining area and returning the operation to an operating profit. Safety performance substantially improved.
Following the company going into liquidation I was employed by the receiver Ferrier Hodgson to assist in maintaining the assets and preparation of sale documents.
OCT 1996 – AUG 1998 - Haoma Mining - Chief General Manager (Chief Operating Officer)
Responsible to the Executive Chairman for all mining and exploration activities of the company.
Key responsibilities included monitoring of joint venture agreements and representation at joint venture meetings. Joint ventures include the Nolans Operation (Carpentaria Gold), Linden Joint Venture (Goldfields Exploration) and Pilbara Diamond exploration (Stockdale). Responsibility included valuation, acquisition, joint venturing of mining properties, management of exploration and liaison with statutory authorities.
Achievements included the negotiation of a joint venture agreement with Goldfields on Haoma's Linden tenements in Western Australian; the acquisition of the Goldfields and Placer tenements at Ravenswood in Queensland; the re-commissioning of the Bamboo Creek treatment plant in Western Australia, the development of a strategic plan, a complete revision of the company's previous annual report format and the setting up of a computer system for mine design and project evaluation.
SEPT 1994 - OCT 1996: - Herald Resources – Resident Manager Lynas Find Project & Principal Mining Engineer
I was responsible for the development of the Lynas Find Gold Project and subsequent operation as Registered Manager and Quarry Manager. Tasks included contractor supervision, staff recruitment, establishment of administration system and budgets.
Transferred to Perth office as Principal Mining Engineer where duties included reviewing performance of Herald operations; design and development of new open pits at existing operations; ore reserve calculations; feasibility studies for new projects and potential acquisitions. Design work carried out using Whittle 4D optimisation and Surpac 2000.
Achievements included the development and successful first year operation of the Lynas Find project. Gold production during this period was 30% above budget and mill throughput 25% above budget. The above budget production allowed the debt to be paid back in eight months of production commencing.
JAN 1993 - SEPT 1994: Professional Consulting
March 1993 - Jan 1994: Project Engineer - Mining, Marandoo Iron Ore Project
Duties included mine development design; preparation of development mining contract document, tender evaluation, contract negotiation, site supervision and administration of contract.
Achievements included the completion of the contract 3 weeks ahead of schedule, on budget and without any lost time injuries.

JUL 1991 FEB 1992: Mine Superintendent/Quarry Manager Dominion Mining Meekatharra
Responsible to the Operations Manager for the Mining Department at Meekatharra and Gabanintha.
Duties included supervision and administration of an hourly hire earthmoving and drilling contracts, supervision of Dominion Mining's blast crew, mine planning and survey sections. Statutory responsibility as Quarry Manager.
Multi pit operation consisting of mining 10 million BCM of material per annum from the Meekatharra area and 1.5 million BCM per annum from Gabanintha to produce 1.8 million tonne's of ore.
Achievements included a 50% increase in mine production, 40% reduction in unit mining costs and a 50% increase in gold production, resulting from lower ore dilution, innovative pit design, more effective mine planning and contractor management.
APR 1989 TO MAY 1991: Resident Mine Manager/Quarry Manager,
Reedy Gold Operations Metana Minerals
Responsible to a Perth based General Manager for the daily management of a 55,000 oz per annum gold mining operation and associated infrastructure. The operation involved multi pit mining from satellite ore bodies within a radius of 25 kilometres from the treatment plant. A company owned mining fleet was operated until March 1991, when the equipment was sold and contract mining commenced. Development of satellite pits required liaison with Government departments, pastoralists, coordination of planning, infrastructure relocation, haul road construction and ore haulage contract preparation and negotiation.
Achievements included increasing gold production by 65% in the first month of employment and maintaining it at this level. Production increase resulted from improved mining techniques and increasing mill availability and efficiency.
AUG 1988 TO MAR 1989: Operations Support Manager Bond Gold
Initial duties included trouble shooting, reviewing capital expenditure and advising the Operations Manager on all areas of the Fimiston operations. The operations involved both open cut and underground mining and treatment of free milling and refractory gold ores.
I was assigned to the Jubilee Gold Mine as Resident Mine Manager. The objective was to make operation more profitable.
Achievements included making the Jubilee operation more profitable by introducing more selective mining techniques and improving the treatment plant availability. The mill throughput at the Chaffers treatment plant was significantly increased after analyzing the bottlenecks and justifying an expansion based utilizing existing equipment and making small changes to the circuit. The capital cost of the Chaffers plant expansion was $4.28 million compared to an engineering quote of $18 million.
JUL 1986 TO AUG 1988: Metallurgical/Deputy Operations Manager AUR
Responsible to the Operations Manager for all metallurgical and engineering activities of the group and provide assistance to him, including responsibility for him during his absence.
Duties included the daily management of the Mt Martin Gold Mine producing 140,000 tonnes per annum of ore from both underground and open cut sources. Underground mining techniques included slot mining. Gold extraction was by carbon in pulp treatment and vat leaching. Other duties included preparation of mine site budget, surveying, mine planning and supervision of mining contractors. I was Project Manager for the Mt Martin treatment plant expansion from 50,000 tonnes per annum to 140,000 tonnes per annum and a feasibility study into increasing production to 250,000 tonnes per annum.
Achievements included de-bottlenecking and a minor expansion of the existing treatment plant and the management of a further expansion of the treatment plant using individual consultants managed in house.
NOV 1984 TO JUL 1986: Senior Metallurgist Jacia Natural Resource Consultants
Responsible to the General Manager Consulting for all metallurgical activities of the company.
Projects included the commissioning of the Bamboo Creek Carbon - in Pulp plant, relieving Metallurgical Superintendent and Resident Manager, feasibility studies and capital cost estimates and business development.
Achievements included the successful commissioning of the Bamboo Creek treatment plant to operate at 20 percent above nameplate capacity.
JAN 1981 TO NOV 1984: Metallurgical Engineer, Western Mining Engineering Services.
Responsible to the Manager, Metallurgy, W.E.S.
Duties included trouble shooting at operations, design projects, flow sheet development metallurgical testwork and feasibility studies.
Assignment to the Emperor Gold Mine, Fiji as Metallurgical Superintendent for a six month period to address gold recovery and treatment plant availability issues. The assignment included technical input, training of local Fijian operators and establishment of more efficient management systems.
Other projects included Semi-autogenous pilot testing of Yeelirrie Uranium ore, process plant design, feasibility studies including an evaluation of the Loloma Tin Project (Queensland) and the Stawell Gold Project and relieving production superintendent Queensland Phosphate
Achievements included increasing the gold recovery at the Emperor Gold Mine from 65% to 90%, reducing high gold inventory on carbon and increasing the treatment plant availability by changing the circuit design, mechanical modifications, training Fijian operators and introducing change into the management culture.
JULY 1980 TO JANUARY 1981: Metallurgist, Oakbridge Ltd.
I was responsible for the operation of the Herberton Tin treatment plant. The gravity concentration plant was modified to incorporate a 65,000 tonne per annum flotation section to treat a complex copper, silver, arsenic tin ore. Responsible for the production, maintenance, project management of modifications and technical services.
Achievements included the successful modification of the tin concentrator to incorporate a base metal flotation plant.
MARCH 1978 TO JUNE 1980: Senior Metallurgist/Plant Metallurgist/ Acting Concentrator Superintendent, Peko Mines, Warrego Operation (Northern Territory)
I was responsible to General Superintendent Metallurgy for the Research Department. Duties included budgeting, supervision of four subordinate staff, design of research projects, and technical support for the Warrego Concentrator and represented the department at management meetings.
A significant highlight was the involvement in the development of a hydrometallurgical process to extract copper, bismuth and gold from a bismuth concentrate.
As Plant Metallurgist I was responsible for the daily operation of the 550,000 tonnes per annum Warrego Concentrator. Unit operations were autogenous milling; differential copper bismuth sulphide flotation; gold recovery using cones, spirals, jigs and strakes; Merrill Crowe gold precipitation and gold smelting.
Achievements included a significant input into the design of a hydrometallurgical process to extract copper, bismuth and gold from a bismuth concentrate and the implementation of instrumentation to improve the precipitation of gold using the Merrill Crowe process.
JULY 1976 TO JANUARY 1978: Project Metallurgist, Western Mining Windarra Nickel Project.
I was responsible to the Technical Services Superintendent for the metallurgical laboratory and projects associated with the 1.1 million tonne per annum nickel concentrator.
Achievements included significant improvement in the grade and recovery of nickel into concentrate as a result of laboratory test work evaluating magnesium oxide depressants.
1974 1975: Full time study W.A. School of Mines.
I obtained vocational employment with Great Boulder Mines, Kalgoorlie. Duties included test work associated with gold extraction from open cut deposits located on the Fimiston lease.
1973: Laboratory assistant at the Great Boulder Mines, Kalgoorlie.
Routine duties associated with the Fimiston Nickel Concentrator and assisting metallurgist with testwork.

Duties included routine duties associated with the gold treatment plant, atomic adsorption analysis of geochemical samples, fire assaying for gold, relieving as gold room assistant. I was involved in pilot plant testing of nickel ores and full scale treatment plant. I assisted metallurgists with fluorspar, kyanite and nickel sulphide flotation testwork.
