Extensive knowledge in Honeywell Distributed Control Systems' (DCS) Hardware & Software: -TDC 3000/TPS system and CL programming languages for process control applications. Also have over 2 years' experiences on real-time and simulated control systems in academic environment.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2001 – Present LEAD ENGINEER, TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT, QATAR PETROLEUM REFINERY, STATE OF QATAR

* Responsible for Refinery Expansion Project consist of Honeywell APC (Advanced Process Control) systems and Lead Engineer work closely with vendor for configuration, implementation & commissioning of the APC systems as well as reviewing functional design & conducting acceptance test and providing user training to operation personnel.
* Study and modify the basic operational philosophies like intermediate stream blending for each product, designated product and intermediate storage tanks, product specifications, availability of instrumentation, operational flexibility of product transfer lines/unit rundowns etc for improvement in view of OM&S applications implementation.
* Coordinate with Field instrument team to attend the unhealthy instruments like FICs, MOVs, and tank gauging instruments etc for maintaining the online factor of APC applications.
* Work closely with end users (Operation & Production Planning) to make sure APC & OM&S applications such as RMPCT, Tanks Monitoring, Movements, Blend Control & Optimization packages are continually available on-line, fully utilized and provide day-to-day support on these applications to fulfill operational requirements.
* Change and improve models in existing applications after implementation, to sustain increased Refinery margins.

1999 – 2000 SR. PROJECT ENGINEER, GLOBAL SERVICES-REFINERY, ASPENTECH CANADA LTD., CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA

* Responsible for project related tasks including determining scope of the required system, estimating cost & schedule, the functional & detail design, configuration, implementation and commissioning of order management for blending and oil movement (Pro-Blend, Pro-Move) applications.

1995 - 1999 SR. APPLICATION ENGINEER, REGIONAL APPLICATION CENTRE, HONEYWELL LIMITED (CANADA), TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA

Software Applications - Project:
* Responsible for the preparation of the project specification documentation, implementation & commission of OM&S and in-line blending applications, also provide training to the client, [i.e. SDM - Storage Data Management, BRC - Blend Ratio Control, BPC - Blend Property Control (Optimization package uses MINOS1), ODM - Offsite Database Management (uses ORACLE RDBMS)].
* Prepared number of project specification documents and successfully designed and implemented number of customized SDM applications for client, i.e.
- Volume calculation of H2 & Natural Gas using Redlich- Kwong equation of state
- Sorting & Generating Tank Farm Inventory Log Report, etc.

* Successfully designed and implemented number of customized BRC & BPC applications for client:
- A single destination tank sharing by two blenders.
- Proto Octane lab data downloaded (transferred) to the BRC (i.e. into analyzer proto values).
- Lab property values from SDM tank uploaded (transferred) to the BPC blend values.
- Custom alarming for each property when calculated property giveaway exceeds a configured tolerance.
* Successfully implemented number of standard BRC, BPC & ODM applications for clients.
* Successfully designed and implemented Interlock logic for High level control and back flow isolation valve control for an in-line blending.

Hardware Systems:
* Responsible for staging/upgrading the TPS/LCN systems for every project which include setting up and installing TPS/LCN software for Global User Station (GUS), Application Processing Platform (APP), Application Module (AM), Process Manager family (HPM, APM, PM, SM, LM), Computer Module (CM), PLCG & History Module (HM) etc. Formatting, initializing & Installing HM disk drive. Network (NCF) configuration & installation of TPS/LCN systems for every project. Formatting & partitioning PC hard drive, installing Windows NT and PC network configuration using TCP/IP for GUS & APP node. Also responsible for ordering new hardware, maintaining and troubleshooting of the hardware configurations.

1991 - 1994 ADVANCED CONTROL SYSTEMS, UPGRADING LINE SUPPORT,

1993 - 1994 CONTROL / SIMULATION ENGINEER

On-Line/Main Control Systems:
* Successfully designed and implemented a Furnace Combustion (Cross Limit) Control on a Coker unit
* Designed and implemented successfully a multivariable Reactor Weighted Average Bed Temperature control application using an Optimization package MINOS1 on a Gas Oil Hydrotreater.
* Justified and implemented an alarm management control strategies on various Plants.

Process Training Simulations:
* Developed and implemented Gas Oil Hydrotreater reactor furnace and fractionator reboiler simulations model using IDSP2. Implemented control loops and schematics for the furnace and reboiler.

1991 - 1993 APPLICATION ENGINEER

On-Line/Main Control Systems:
* Successfully implemented an alternate reactor pressure control, a fractionator overhead temperature control and a low pressure steam generator's level control applications on a LC Finer process.
* Designed and implemented a Boiler Feed Water Decoupling control application and a furnace feedforward firing control application on a Gas Oil Hydrotreater. Justified and designed a control strategy on a LC Finer reactor temperature control when add new catalyst & remove used catalyst.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED:

On-Line/Main Control Systems:
* The integrity, security, design, implementation, and maintenance of process control applications.
* The identification, justification and implementation of new process control schemes to improve process unit performance through analysis of unit operation, control problems and soliciting of operation.
* Provide effective training for the process operators and technical contacts on the use of control applications to safely control all operational aspects. The technical supports for all process control troubleshooting/concerns/inquiries and Database management.

Process Training Simulations:

Maintenance:
* Implementation of software changes that have been completed on the Main System.
* Minor changes to existing Plant models; includes both Plant changes and new requirements for Training.
Development:
* Major Plant model changes & new Plant models and building new control loops.
* Migration of the Main System's applications to the Training Simulations. Loop tuning, points and schematics building.

1988 - 1990 RESEARCH/TEACHING ASSISTANT, THE UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN
ONTARIO, LONDON, ONTARIO, CANADA.

* Research focused on adaptive control & Non-linear control algorithms and use of statistical techniques as an empirical method of model design and parameters estimation. Both real-time and simulated control systems have been examined. Implemented and tested an experimental batch reactor temperature control system on Non-linear and adaptive control algorithms.
