Position: Logistics Manager Reporting to Managing Director
Responsibilities Include:
Initially employed as ¡* Concentrate Logistics Manager¡¨. This roll was established to investigate and report on as many practical options as could be recognized to transport 330,000 tonnes of copper concentrate PA some 1,100 kms from Phu Kham plant site to the Port of export. A detailed operational plan was required to be scoped and costed for each scenario including design technical specification for equipment, cost and procure equipment. Once a decision had been made on route, Port and method of operation I was then charged with the responsibility to implement the plan and then oversee the day to day operations. Whilst construction was being undertaken I acted as support for the project team by providing both transport and other logistical services essential for the timely and cost effective completion of the project, this included all import, customs and transport by land sea and air.

Approximately one year into my employment with PanAust and following the commencement of mining operations, I was asked to take over the Management responsibilities of Distribution Logistics from the Supply Dept. as well as maintain my focus on the Concentrate Haulage Operations. In this capacity I was required to rationalize what had been happening to that point in time and integrate the two functions so as to optimize use of equipment and human resources. I have been continuing in these two rolls since April 06.

* Work with all stake holders to develop a seamless supply and distribution network that met all internal as well as external customer demands
* Work closely with Project personnel to ensure time lines and cost constrains for all goods and materials required for the construction project are satisfactorily carried out.
* Establish world wide supply lines using all road, rail, sea and air service providers capable of ensuring all performance criteria is met.
* Liaise with service providers and negotiate satisfactory outcomes for service level agreements and maintaining focus on KPI performance and meeting bottom line targets.
* Develop and encourage innovative thinking on the part of subordinate staff and service providers to come up with new and innovative ways of delivering the services that will improve performance and reduce overall operating costs.
* Responsible for all road maintenance along the 130 km mine access road network.
* Liaise and negotiate with both Thai and Lao government departments in relationship to road transport issues, cross border requirements and security.
* Foster and nurture a mentoring relationship between subordinate expatriate staff and the local national employees
* Develop and implement training programs for indigenous employees.
* Camp Management of the Longxan Transit Camp site that accommodates approx. 60 personnel and houses the Concentrate line-haul equipment workshops as well as the lay down yard for all goods requiring access to and from the mine site.

Whilst initially my area of responsibility only covered QNTBU Logistic al requirements; however with the conation of the two business units into one, my responsibilities were expanded to take in all of Santos's on shore and off shore operations. BPE Colombia was one of the largest individual employers in Colombia employing over 3,000 people directly and indirectly. The supply line from Bogota to the remote town of Yopal where the central processing plant was being constructed was over 875 km by road from Bogota. My roll was to establish a supply line arrangement where by the logistic support services supplied were based of ¡* Worlds Best Practice¡¨ and capable of performing to the Project, Construction and Operations stated performance requirements without interruption of mishap. Upon completion of this roll I was tasked to undertake operational audits of all prospective service providers as well as carry out audits on those already servicing BPE logistical requirements. These included companies involved with providing services both nationally as well as internationally and included all import and export operations by air, sea and land.

Position: Transport/Logistics Consultant
I worked with a number of local transport & logistics supply and contracting companies servicing BP Exploration operations through the supply of transport, warehousing, materials supply and handling services. Whilst HSEQ was the main focus of the studies carried out, maintenance and equipment specification was seen as an integral aspect of each of these studies. I was required to undertake operational audits of all the contracting companies to identify basic causation and contributing factors for performance failures as well as industrial accident and incidents. I then worked with various management teams co-ordinating the development and implementation of a range of operational initiatives designed to enhance operational performance. The terms of reference for my commission was simply to review each contractors current method of operation and work practices and put in place corrective measures to ensure a safe and efficient operation comparable to that of world's best practice. During this time I worked closely with the Colombian government's equivalent to the Australian Technical and Further Education Department, ¡* SENA¡¨ to develop and introduce a number of training exercises focused at transport, distribution equipment operators, warehouse and maintenance personnel. Upon completion of my contract I was requested to travel to Vietnam and assist BP's management to design and oversee the implementation of similar programs there.
