SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS & SKILLS
ć Safety Compliance Plans: Lead investigator on thirty-nine (39) fatalities involving cross-functional teams using Root Cause Analysis with definitive corrective actions. Increased safety awareness and compliance through implementing 5S housekeeping, safety, and environmental compliance tracking. Reduced remote controlled railroad derailment incidents by 50% via root-cause investigations and visual mapping of derailments.
ć Environmental Compliance Plans: Developed an Environmental Compliance Plan for EAF Fugitive Emissions in a mini-mill manufacturing environment with project budget ($5.5M) and compliance date of 12/28/10. Initiated root-cause analysis in a waste water system for a mini-mill to identify and implement a low cost solution that avoided Capital expenditures (~$5-6M) and the rescinding of an NYDEC Consent Order.
ć Personnel & Systems Development: Selected, hired, trained, and cross-trained Engineers in key functional areas to improve Equipment & Technology Reliability in support of manufacturing processes. Identified and developed an Improvement Team focused on evaluating, selecting, and implementing a CMMS for an integrated steel manufacturer. This process took 2+ years and resulted in a major cultural shift. Led a select Team in salaried position evaluations for 1500 employees which resulted in termination for 278 salaried employees.
ć Technology & Conceptual Engineering Solutions: Introduced robotic technology for slab surface conditioning. Prepared technical evaluations and acted as liaison between top management and key Union officials. Submitted project documentation for Capital approval with the solution resulting in the elimination of a "bottle-neck" process and the reassignment of 65+ hourly positions. Coordinated the implementation of the Capital Plan for mini-mill projects totaling $20M per year. Identified concept, basic design, benefits, work scope, cost estimates, PowerPoint presentations, schedules, cash flows, project team organization and Project Implementation Methodology. Provided plant expansion concept plans with minimal preliminary engineering to achieve increasing plant production by 200% in a mini-mill.
ƒá Process Equipment Reliability: Implemented Process Measurables in an SBQ bar mill. Resulted in lowering equipment delays (46%), improving product quality, & increasing plant productivity. Developed design FEMA analysis on BOF steam boiler drum failures. Safety audit evaluations with recommendations in Cold Mills, Operations, and Maintenance. Improvement plans through various projects including blast furnace, coke plant, material handling, BOF, EAF, LMF, Casters, hot strip & cold strip mills, picklers, annealing, galvanizing, boilers and plant infrastructure. Implemented key PdM activities through planned maintenance ¡V vibration, alignment, lubrication, thermo-graphy, inspection & NDT ¡V resulted in improving overall MTBF by 100%.
ć Major Projects Implementation: Served as Team Leader for improving the capability of a "bottle-neck" steelmaking facility involving major construction projects totaling $65M with results of 40% increase in shop capacity to produce 4M tons/yr. Restored BOF vessel equipment with innovative repair procedures that extended life expectancy by 10 years with expected $25M Capital expenditures delayed for 15 years.
ć Outage Planning & Implementation: Coordinated a successful Hot End Outage for an integrated steel facility, delivering early and under budget ($14M) with zero safety incidents. Analyzed, evaluated, recommended, and implemented the rebuild of a 22k HP steam turbo-blower for a single blast furnace operation. Formatted a detailed plan (with no spares on hand), detailed cost estimate ($3.25M), and a compressed eight-week rebuild schedule. Rebuilt a failed (explosion) 400psi steam boiler with upgraded controls and new tubes ($6.5M). Planned, scheduled and implemented Annual Maintenance Outages on budget, on time & safe performances.
