OVERALL CARRIER EXEPRIENC
ASHISH had extensive experience with projects, from technical management role through to project manager. Further various activities undertaken by me for implementation of 400/220 kV AC substations and HVDC Substation/terminal projects includes Preparation of tender technical specifications, bill of quantities, qualifying requirement of bidders, preparation of tender documents, technical evaluation, review and submission of tender recommendations, Project engineering, detailed engineering and carried out system Studies for the formulation of the new transmission projects and technical specifications which includes various activities like Load Flow Studies, Short Circuit Studies and fault analysis.
Responsibilities Handled and Experience with National Grid
* Familiarize myself with GB network design and data according to GBSQSS.
* 2020 Study: Build data for 2020 and Carry out DC load flow and FLOP for the Mid Wales, West Midland and London study.
* Power Factory Training and learning. Working out scheme based on Investment planning background verse SYS background. Carry out scheme checking and load flow study.
* Working on HVDC load flow model and checking various operational phenomena.
Responsibilities Handled and Experience with POWERGRID
* 800 KV 6000 MW NER-Siliguri-Agra Multi-terminal HVDC: This is world biggest HVDC multi terminal ever planned till date. POWERGRID appointed 8 independent consultants.
ľ I worked with consultants and EPRI and CIGRE recommendations on the 800 kV. Based on the input from various papers and CIGRE and EPRI guideline and consultant recommendation I have worked my area of work.
ľ Finally I compiled all parts of Technical specification. I discussed with consultant on my area of work.
ľ I carry out study and derived the reactive power strategy, Short circuit ratio, and various other parameters. Further I evaluated the harmonic impedance diagram.
* Technical specification: Prepared Technical Specification for the various Bipole and Back-to-Back HVDC, Upgradtion of Talcher Kolar Bipole project and various 400/220 kV substations.
ľ Scope: Project overall scope, system Engineering and studies, manufacturing and supply of equipment, Civil work, packaging and transport, Installation, testing, Spare parts Performance guarantee, Documentation, training etc
ľ Bill of quantity
ľ Equipment specification of major equipments, switchgear and filter components like capacitor, reactors, resistors, Surge arrester etc.
ľ Project specific details like Location, Site condition, environmental details, Transmission system rating, Dynamic performance, Reactive power compensation, Reliability and availability, station loss evaluation, General arrangement etc.
„« System studies inputs: Carried out various studies like Reactive power compensation, short circuit calculation, etc to derive Reactive power curve, minimum and maximum short circuit ratio, fault analysis etc.
ľ Schedule of Technical information. Bidder used to fill these schedules in the bid document at the time of bidding to give data/information.
* Tender process.
ľ Coordinated and communicated within group, other department and Bidders on various aspects.
ľ Pre award and Post award discussion with the bidders and prepare evaluation report on technical bid and submit for the approval.
ľ Interacted with the Ministry of Power and financial institutions like World Bank, ADB etc for the technical queries/clarifications.
ľ Interacted with Project/Individual consultants and ask the queries if required and gained knowledge.
* Project Detailed engineering
ľ Work out Planning schedule, implementation process, sub vendor list etc.
ľ Technical coordination and monitoring with the Contractor (vender and sub vender), within group, interdepartmental and site during project execution.
ľ Worked on Project documentation, identify training need with in group, arranged project workshops etc.
ľ Based on Technical specification check/review detailed engineering for the scope of work, system studies, equipment rating and various technical parameters. Review various system studies reports and give approval to the report for the Bipole and Back-to-Back HVDC substations projects and 400/220 kV substations. Verified the design based on the result of the system studies reports, technical specifications requirements and consider the margins over and above study results and give approval to Manufactures' drawings, equipment specification, data sheet and operation manuals of major AC and DC equipments, switchgears and AC and DC filter component etc for the Bipole and Back-to-Back HVDC substations projects and 400/220 kV substations.
ľ Review and approval of Project engineering documents that include Layout, SLD, DSLP design, Illumination system for control room and switch yard, Earthmat design etc for various HVDC and AC substation.
ľ Witnessed and evaluate Type test of various equipments like Converter/Power transformer, Shunt Reactor, Filter component i.e. Capacitor, Reactor, Resistor Surge arrester etc, CB, Isolators etc.
ľ Arrange regular meeting highlight the ongoing issues with the contractor, site and associated department and record the minutes.
ľ Evaluated/witnessed Factory system and dynamic performance test at the contractor works on RTDS. This is critical part of testing to verify the control system.
* Talcher Kolar Upgradtion Project
ľ Worked out techno economic study
ľ This bipole project upgraded from 2000 MW to 2500MW. Negotiated with the contractor and work out the strategy how to implement changes/modifications to the existing system and install new equipments.
ľ Review design document, drawing, technical specifications etc.
* 2000 MW Talcher Kolar Project electrode: Current was floating on the surface when operating in the ground return mode and creating problem to the near by AC substation transformer. I was part of investigation. I had been worked out the strategy and planted blocking device on the neutral of transformer.
* I was part of Rihand Dadri HVDC converter transformer failure investigation team and repair process.
* Workout the RTDC technical specification.

* 1000 MW Bhadrawati HVDC Back-to-Back Project (Commissioned in 1997).
* 500 MW Vizag first Block Block Back to Back HVDC Project (Commissioned in 1998 -99).
* 500 MW Sasaram HVDC Back to Back Project (Commissioned in 2001).
* 500 MW Vizag second Block Back to Back HVDC Project (Commissioned in 2003 -04).
* 2000 MW ¡Ó500 kV Talcher-Kolar HVDC Bipole Project (Commissioned in 2003 -04).
* 2500 MW ¡Ó500 kV up-gradation of Talcher-Kolar HVDC Bipole Project (Commissioned in 2005 -06).
* 2500 MW ¡Ó500MW Ballia Bhiwadi HVDC Bipole Project (will Commission in 2009 -10).
* 6000 MW ¡Ó800MW NER-Siliguri-Agra HVDC Multiterminal Bipole Project(will Commission in 2013 -14)
AC SUBSTATION
* 400/220/33kV Sasaram Substation (Commissioned in 2004 -05).
* 400/220 kV Vizag substation(Commissioned in 2003 -04)
* 400/220/132 kV Kashipur substation (consultancy project for Utranchal Power Corporation) (Commissioned in 2004 -05).
Major Achievements
* Successfully prepared 800 kV 6000MW Multi-Terminal HVDC Project Technical Specification.
* In the main circuit parameter I have highlighted various parameters which help in to fix rating of equipments. In the insulation co-ordination report I have reported a study case which was critical to determine the requirement of the DC neutral Earth electrode Surge arrester rating.
* Up-gradation Talcher Kolar HVDC Bipole project: This Project was commissioned in 2003-04 for 2000 MW Bipole Power. This project was upgraded to 2500 MW Bipole project by utilizing the inherent overload capability with increase cooling of various equipments, modification in smoothing reactor cooling design and addition of filters. Challenging work was to increase the cooling of air core smoothing reactor. Work out plan and implemented. This was done first time ever.
* I worked in a prestigious HVDC Talcher Kolar HVDC project. This project was completed in a record time without any cost overrun. It also resulted in a saving of about $80 million of the public money. Prime minister of India appreciated the efforts of the engineering team and as recognition of our exemplary efforts monetary rewards was accorded. Further our engineering team individuals have received appreciation letter from our executive director.
* I took great interest in R&D activities of my department and standardized/conceptualized the 400 kV and 220 kV equipment and fixing up of main parameter for HVDC substation. This has substantially reduced the Project costs and their timely completion.
* I carried out Reactive power study, load flow study, fault analysis and short circuit calculation for HVDC projects which is mentioned under heading detailed engineering. With the help of these studies result we have specified various parameters in the technical specifications such as system parameters or general design criteria, reactive power performance with the existing ac system, Short circuit levels, Harmonic impedance, filter and reactor size (MVAR requirements), conductor type etc.
* I have done detailed engineering work for 400/220/132 kV Kashipur substation. This was a consultancy work to Utranchal electric company. This work I have finished ahead of scheduled and POWERGRID got the payment well in advance.
Experience Abroad:
* Deputed to M/s SIEMENS, Germany for witnessing Dynamic Performance test for Talcher-Kolar HVDC project.
* Deputed to M/s ABB, Sweden for witnessing Dynamic Performance test for 1X500 MW second blocks Vizag Back-to-Back Project.
* Deputed to M/s SIEMENS, Germany for verifying studies like main system parameter, AC harmonic performance and rating, Insulation coordination etc for Ballia Bhiwadi HVDC Project.
* Witness type testing on Air core reactor at M/S Trench Canada.
* Attended RTDS training at RTDS office Canada.
