Position Synopsis
A core function of BHP Billiton’s Iron Ore business, the Resource Evaluation Group’s (REG) Technical Development team is focussed on delivering integrated technical development in geoscience across WA Iron Ore’s exploration and operations.
At the forefront of geological practice and with the ability to impact our technical vision, you will operate in a continuous improvement environment, leading a multi-disciplinary team of experienced geoscientists to ensure high quality technical geological programs are delivered to the business.
Reporting to the Manager REG, your key responsibilities will include:
* Leading the introduction and embedding of world’s best practice into all aspects of the REG’s technical programs;
* Managing the development and delivery of technical support, and geological mentoring and training across the REG functions;
* Overseeing the management of geological databases including GIS;
* Reviewing and auditing major geological programs and overseeing external audits;
* Meeting BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s geological research and development requirements;
* Ensuring that all geological programs, from exploration concept, through target definition and testing, and to detailed resource and reserve are planned and interpreted to the highest standards; and
* Proactively engaging in and supporting continuous improvement to deliver efficiency and cost effectiveness across REG activities;
Skills and Experience
As a dynamic leader you will have excellent communication and influencing skills, and the energy and passion to drive the team in the achievement of safety, project and cost targets.
Key to your success will be your broad technical experience in exploration and mining, including exposure to downstream modelling and interpretation. You will have tertiary qualifications in geology or a related discipline, and experience in leading teams of geoscientists in operating exploration environments.
Strong computing and data analysis skills are essential; knowledge of risk assessment, contract management and business improvement methodologies will be highly regarded.
This position is Perth based and requires regular travel to our Pilbara sites.
