BHP Billiton Worsley Alumina is the joint venture operation of BHP Billiton, Japan Alumina Associates and Sojitz Alumina. As a member of the world’s largest diversified resources company, Worsley manages a bauxite mine and alumina refinery in Western Australia’s South West and offers candidates an enviable choice of lifestyle, based in the state’s picturesque South West.

Worsley Alumina is seeking male and female members to join our power station team as trainees. The traineeship is a 2 year programme which provides a unique opportunity to combine on and off the job competency based training while working in a challenging, high tech environment. For high performing trainees, the training and work-based learning will culminate in a nationally recognised qualification at the completion of two years.

Power Station Operator Trainees will progress toward a Certificate III in Power Plant Operations, which encompasses certification in Boiler and Turbine operations.

Successful trainees will be involved in a number of key tasks, including -

Contributing to daily work targets being met safely and efficiently

• Operating, monitoring, servicing and maintaining a wide range of equipment

• Completion of all daily reports

• Collecting and processing on-line samples

• Where qualified, providing on the job training to other operators

• Participating in team projects, workplace quality and process improvements

• Completing a range of “off the job” training modules.

It is expected that successful applicants will have completed a minimum of Year 10 secondary education with the equivalent of at least Stage 4 passes in English, Mathematics and Science. A current Western Australian ‘C’ class driver’s licence is essential.
