Owned and operated by BHP Billiton, Cannington is the world’s largest and lowest-cost producer of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, our operation boasts an underground mine and processing mill situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville, and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville. POSITION SYNOPSIS
BHP Billiton Cannington Mine and its service provider MRAEL are proud to offer a limited number of quality apprenticeships in the following trades:
Diesel Fitter;
Fixed Plant Mechanical Fitter;
Heavy Vehicle Auto Electrician; and,
Electrical Fitter Mechanic (Maintenance).
You will have the opportunity to work closely with talented mentors while you receive meaningful, realistic, productive work assignments and training. Your exposure to contemporary resource mining practices and equipment will be second to none, combined with external off-site workshop experience where necessary to achieve a well-rounded trade education.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
To be successful in obtaining an apprenticeship with MRAEL and BHP Billiton Cannington Mine, you will be currently completing or have completed year 12 studies, or a relevant pre-apprenticeship course, with solid results in English and Mathematics.
You will be determined to achieve results in difficult circumstances and conditions, have a dedication to safety and a strong self-awareness. Demonstrated experience in hand held and power tool usage, as well as manual handling, will be highly regarded.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
You will be required to work 12 hour shifts on a 7 days on, 7 days roster from fly-in / fly-out from Townsville.
