OPERATIONS MANAGER

This is an exceptional opportunity for an Operations/General Manager to take charge and manage a large open pit gold mine and contribute to the company’s overall success

THE COMPANY

Our client is a gold mining company operating a number of sites throughout Australia and Africa. They are currently looking for an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations at their West Africa Mine open cut gold operation. The current plan is to extend the mine to an underground operation commencing within the next two years.
THE ROLE

Reporting to the General Manager of Operations, the successful candidate will:

* Take a leading role as part of the company’s senior management team to develop and achieve the company’s goals and objectives at this key operation
* Establish and continually improve the safe and healthy working conditions and culture of the operation
* Oversee all operational aspects at the Mine Site
* Build and motivate successful teams across the site
* Build and motivate successful teams across the site Manage the transition from open cut to underground operations
* Ensure complex geological, metallurgical and engineering issues are successfully manageD

THE REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for the Operations Manager role, candidates must have:

* Experience in a similar role
* A Formal Qualification in Mining and/or Metallurgy
* Ability to Manage Complexity
* Good knowledge of most aspects of gold mining (and refractory ores – not as essential).
* Good business acumen and an understanding of cost management as well as financial aspects through to P&L
* A humanistic approach to managing people, with a real and honest desire to develop the local employees and community
* Patience, calm but firm when dealing with the unexpected &/or unrealistic expectations
* Experience in working in remote locations, preferably on a commute basis

In addition the following experience and skills will be highly regarded:

* Previous experience in Africa or other overseas locations
* French language skills
* Both open pit and underground mining experience
* An understanding of SST, work systems design, root cause analysis and/or 6 sigma concept

THE REWARDS

The role will be rewarded with an outstanding opportunity in Africa working on a progressive mining operation with FIFO roster to point of hire or Family Residential Status may also be offered. A nett $AUD salary will be paid commensurable with the seniority of this particular role. Travel to and from the place of employment is provided during company time.
