Maintenance Superintendent

Buzwagi Project in Tanzania is currently searching for an experienced Mine Maintenance Superintendent. This position is required to provide leadership and oversee Maintenance and Repair Contractors (MARC) and Tyre Management & Service contractors in order to ensure planned mechanical availabilities are achieved in safe and cost effective manner. The position is also responsible for maintenance and repair of Company Minor plants. The incumbent reports directly to the Mining Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure that MARC, Tyre Management and Services contractors and any personnel working at Buzwagi in particular in the maintenance areas comply with Tanzanian Mining (safe working) Regulations and the Barrick Buzwagi Health, Safety and Environmental site requirements.

• Ensure that contractors’ works are performed to the approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and that Job Hazards Analysis (JHA) and Field Level Risk Assessments are undertaken prior to commencement of the works and during execution.

• In conjunction with the Production Superintendent; coordinate equipment services, maintenance and repairs; and maximise opportune maintenance to ensure that the mining fleet is in good working condition all the time.

• Implement sound engineering standards and ensure they are upheld by the Contractors and Pangea Maintenance Team.

• Follow up equipment and component warranty issues with contractors and over all performance of the contractors

• Introduce effective programs to enhance the development of the mechanics, services men, artisans, planners and supervisors.

• Ensure effective labour utilisation and controls to get proper maintenance of all machinery and that works scheduled are undertaken within planned duration.

• Ensure effective planning, schedules, budget controls and manage spares availability.

• Deputise for Mining Manager as required

• Be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety, efficient utilisation of the resources and encourage teamwork across Teams

• Any other duties that may be assigned to fulfill the overall business objective.

• Manage Succession Planning within the Mining Team to ensure that the PML commitments to the Tanzanian government with respect to the development of Tanzanian employees to assume positions of increasing accountability are achieved.

• Manage business decisions and transaction in compliance to the Company Code of Ethics and compliance to the Sarbenes-Oxley (SOX) law and standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

Qualification:

• Polytechnic or Mechanical Engineering qualification.

Experience:

• A minimum of 10 years experience in maintenance and repair of heavy Mobile Mining Plant in large open pit operations utilising excavators and large trucks

• Recognized hydraulic certification with specific experience in Electro-hydraulic mechanised machinery like DTH drill rigs, mechanical drive trucks, large hydraulic excavators and ancillary equipment

• Assembly, dyno testing and troubleshooting experience on Air Cooled and Water cooled Engines. Workshop experience in machining, welding and pipe/ plate fabrication.

• Experience in systematic coaching and training of employees in developing country is essential.

• Must have excellent written and spoken communication skills in the English language.
