Location: USA Accountable for overburden and coal drilling and blasting to ensure operations conducted in a safe, effective and environmentally responsible manner. Represent NMC in leading support for the Blasting Fatal Risk program. Ensure the safe and efficient management of drilling and blasting operations to achieve safety and production targets. Strive for a zero harm workplace. Observe behaviors and conditions and correct substandard items. Teach blast crews to be self-observant focusing on 2-way communication of safety issues. Coordinate with the NMC Blasting Champion to ensure the NMC Blasting Fatal Risk Control Program meets all adequacy requirements of the BHPB FRP and that Navajo Mine drilling and blasting department employees are compliant with program requirements. Coordinate with Supply Department and blasting product supplier to ensure blasting product deliveries are timely. Prepare and manage the drilling and blasting capital and operating budgets. Plan, organize, lead, motivate, and control work assignments to achieve efficiency, productivity and the highest level of performance and morale in the safest practical manner. Evaluate the performance of crew members and develop and implement necessary training programs. Coordinate blasting certification training and testing to ensure all blasting personnel maintain required Federal, State and Tribal certifications. Ensure end of month reports are accurate and timely. Plan and conduct weekly Safety Meetings.
Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in surface coal mining operations or equivalent engineering experience. High School diploma or equivalent. Engineering degree a plus. Sound technical skills in relation to production operations. Must be a Certified or be able to obtain New Mexico Surface Foreman certification. Maintain a Valid Drivers license. Obtain all required Federal, State and Tribal blasting certifications within 14-months of start date. Must qualify through Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Demonstrated skills in hazard identification and control of risk. Proven leadership. Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. Ability to coach, instruct, motivate and develop teamwork among employees and with other departments. Overtime as needed. Demonstrated skills in planning, analysis and problem solving. Demonstrated active involvement in Safe Production. Ability to use and apply Word, Excel, PowerPoint and GSAP. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, rapidly changing environment.
